JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
KeyString Labs (KSL) has a strategy and consulting arm as one of its five primary departments to enable new innovative products and services across the enterprise. This role and this team will be the authority for strategic planning, long-term road mapping, strategic thinking, and working on a variety of time horizons to define our areas of opportunity. This team will also be the author of our innovation thesis, which will define the utility of the future and the ever-evolving value chain that centers on our customer. The consulting role will be realized through efforts both within KSL and with key stakeholders across the utility and Operating Companies.
The primary purpose of this role is to have an impact on our strategic direction within the innovation team. This will require a broad understanding of our business, the limitations and opportunities of a regulated utility, economic factors and the ability to rationalize if an opportunity benefits our four stakeholders, and the ability to influence all levels of transformation management.
This role goes well beyond brainstorming and big ideas – this requires deploying the discipline of the innovation methodology when it comes to creating a funnel of opportunities and distilling them through a prioritization framework. The impact of this team and these positions will ultimately influence the future of the utility. Shaping our portfolio and influencing the priority of our road map will have significant impact on our overall operation.
Building relationships and trust across KSL, Transformation, and with our stakeholders is paramount. Although opportunities will be grounded in data and facts, this team must sell ideas through pitching and other forums. This person also must work across a spectrum of topics- from partnerships, internal opportunities, KSL operations, commercialization, regulatory, finance, and much more.
Persons in this role will have implicit leadership on many topics and must influence and partner with KSL line management which includes Portfolio and Partnership Management; Product Delivery; Design; Engineering; and the VP of Innovation.
As with any leadership role, members of this team will also provide leadership, mentoring and coaching.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lead and/or participate in strategic planning session to discuss our thesis; areas of opportunity; developing the innovation ecosystem; diving deep on opportunities
2. Author white papers, strategic points of view, and other papers in support of influencing stakeholders and making pitches to move opportunities through the innovation cycle
3. Consulting to provide innovation expertise and add value for a product team, KSL cohort, or any stakeholder across the enterprise
4. Have an ability to go deep on topics to not always require a team of resources to do early innovation research, business case development, financial analysis, and other influential data
5. Provide subject matter expertise in the development of the long term-road map – this might be realized through being part of a team working on a specific time horizon or being part of the effort to build out the broad road map. Both require strong partnership across the team and with leaders across the company – while also working with the necessary external resources to learn what is happening across the industry or with a specific technology
6. Continuous learning as the success of innovation is to cultivate ideas that might not exist today.
7. Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to teams whether that be directly or in a matrixed format
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field
Graduate degree (MBA or Master's in related field) preferred
Minimum experience required of the position
2+ years experience in an innovation role or equivalent/relevant experience with real business
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Proficiency in PC Windows environment (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
