This role can be filled as a Power Plant Manager or Sr Power Plant Manager depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Job Summary/Purpose

 Manages and oversees the daily operations of a power plant. Meets system load requirements and monitors operations for efficiency and safety ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are followed. Leads and directs the work of others. Oversees technical staff, such as maintenance or engineering, and hires and trains personnel. May be required to meet certain certifications in field. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

 Manager, Power Plant:

 Review logs, datasheets, or reports to ensure adequate production levels and safe production environments or to identify abnormalities with power production equipment or processes.

  • Review operations performance specifications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Conduct field inspections of plants, stations, or substations to ensure normal and safe operating conditions.
  • Supervise plant or substation operations, maintenance, repair, or testing activities.
  • Prepare and manage plant budgets.
  • Supervise operations or maintenance employees in the production of power.
  • Monitor the operating status of plants by observing control system parameters, distributed control systems, switchboard gauges, dials, or other indicators.

 

Sr. Manager, Power Plant:

Manages and oversees the operations of power plants. Responsible for operations reliability,  safety, compliance, and financial performance. Ensures plant is prepared to meet system load requirements and proactively monitors operations for efficiency and safety ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are followed.  Leads and directs the work of others.  Oversees technical staff, such as maintenance, engineering, work management/planning, and administrative support. Hires, trains/develops  personnel.  Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Drive strategic vision and direction of the organization. 
  • Foster the importance of a safety-oriented culture. 
  • Lead the team in establishing a Winning Culture by example, and coach, mentor and develop direct and indirect reports to exceed their individual and company goals. 
  • Meet system load requirements and monitor operations for efficiency and safety, ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are followed. 
  • Oversee, lead and direct plant staff, including operations, maintenance and engineering staff, and hire and train personnel. 
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 
  • Act as a change agent for the plant with the daily initiative of improving morale and staff engagement. 
  • Lead plant efforts to ensure stakeholder expectations are met; foster and improve stakeholder communication, along with establishing and maintaining an inclusive environment. 
  • Be the voice of the plant for all departments, offering regular communication and updates. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 Minimum education required of the position 

  • Typically requires a college or university degree in related field or the equivalent work experience.

 

Minimum experience required of the position 

  • Minimum of 8+ years relevant experience, with prior supervisory/ management experience (preferably in a plant environment)

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position 

  • In-depth experience in power plant operations & maintenance. Experienced project manager with excellent leadership skills.
