***This position will be filled as an Apprentice 4th Year - Journeyman Lineman, depending upon experience***

 

APPRENTICE 4TH YEAR

 

A. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

Under Class 2 supervision, with some latitude for planning or laying out of working details, locate and repair all types of breaks in the electric transmission and distribution system, answer electric trouble calls to customers' premises, must be able to perform high and low voltage line work involved in the construction and maintenance of electric transmission, underground and distribution dead or energized conductors, structures and equipment, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

1. Have equivalent experience in related work, having all the qualifications of an Apprentice 3rd Step.

2. Use hot line tools.

3. Work on all types of conductors.

4. Install all types of transformer installations, make tap changes, and install primary metering equipment.

5. Locate trouble and restore service on all classes of lines, substations, sectionalizing equipment, etc.

6. Make underground and submarine cable installations, including the making of joints and installation of potheads.

7. Install pole type regulators and transformers to boost or buck line voltage.

8. Phase and check rotation in circuits direct and with potential transformers.

9. Make field tests of distribution transformers.

10. Check for ground faults on circuits or equipment.

11. Direct work of assistants, instruct and train other employees.

12. Inspect power meters for correct potential, operation and reset demand attachments.

13.Locate trouble and restore service on all classes of lines, small distribution substations, sectionalizing equipment, etc.

14.Work on all types of energized conductors.

15. Check phases sequence and rotation.

16. Install and remove transformers on energized circuits.

17. Make minor line extension sketches.

18.Follow the Safety Action Plan “SAP” expectations according to minimum required qualifications. (Rev 03 dated 7/15/2023) If the SAP is to be revised the Company will notify the Union of any proposed changes prior to the effective date of the change, and upon request by the Union, meet and negotiate any change. 

 

B. EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have worked and qualified, as an Apprentice 3rd Step, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.

2. Completion of 600 level certification.

3. Know Company's safety rules and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical first aid on or off the ground.

4. Know the location of, and be able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires.

5. Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License

6. Know Company’s electrical and mechanical tagging rules including Switchman certification.

7. Have thorough knowledge of layout and characteristics of distribution system and transmission lines in the area assigned.

8. Be able to read and understand all wiring diagrams and blueprints as related to transmission and distribution construction and maintenance.

9. Fully understand and be proficient in using technology needed to perform job such as equipment controls, computers, tablets and associated software.

10. Accurately identify and record all changes to Company equipment, constructed jobs according to Company requirements.

11. Know city streets, and roads in rural sections.

12. Have thorough knowledge of city and state traffic laws.

13. Have a thorough knowledge of Company regulations and state laws governing disconnects for nonpayment, and diversion of current.

14. Have working knowledge of Company's practices and standards.

15. Have a thorough practical knowledge of electric circuits and equipment.

16. Be familiar with Company's rules and regulations applying to service and meter installations, National Electrical Code, and any state or local regulations governing electrical wiring.

17. Be able to read and understand all wiring diagrams and blueprints in connection with the distribution system, meters, switchboard equipment, relays, controls and also related Company equipment on customer's premises.

18. Be able to perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety.

 

C. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.

2. Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.

3. Be able to work at heights and close spaces.

4. Good hand-eye coordination and physical dexterity.

 

D. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be capable of assuming leadership responsibilities.

2. Possess all of the personal qualifications as an Apprentice 3rd Step

 

 

JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN

A. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Under Class 3 supervision, with some latitude for planning or laying out of working details, must be able to do the most complicated construction and maintenance work on dead or energized transmission and underground or overhead distribution conductors, structures and equipment, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

1. Have equivalent experience in related work, having all the qualifications of Apprentice 4th Step and/or Junior Lineman.

2. Make all types of transformer installations; do phasing and check rotation on circuits; trace and clear grounds and opens on series circuits.

3. Do all classes of hot line tool work.

4. Reeve blocks.

5. Plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.

6. Check, handle and be responsible for all material removed from and returned to stock and prepare reports and records.

7. Act in capacity of supervisor when authorized.

8. Direct work of assistants, instruct and train new employees.

9. Follow Safety Action Plan “SAP” expectations according to minimum required qualifications. Journeyman Lineman -  5+ years of demonstrated linework experience required

Apprentice 4th Year -  4+ years demonstrated linework experience required

 

As a condition of employment this position requires a pre-employment Fitness for Duty exam.
