 Job Summary/Purpose 

This position is responsible for the overall management, in direction and oversight, to the plants and leaders within the power generating units as assigned. Additionally, this position will be responsible for programs, processes, and strategic initiatives necessary to achieve specific business unit outcomes in alignment with the overall Operations Services and Generation Key Results.  

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities 

 

  1. Actively coach, mentor, train and provide support for the development of  plant personnel. Ensure that facilities/units are properly and safely operated and maintained. Proactively monitor and enhance plant efficiency, operations and maintenance excellence and the maintenance of plant reliability. Responsible for safety, financial performance, reliability, and compliance of the assigned plants while working closely with the respective plant managers and associated support staff. Overall management responsibility for the safe and effective operation and maintenance of the power generating units in the assigned area, working closely with the respective plant managers. Provide leadership and direction to the plant management teams to ensure the organization’s strategic plan is translated into tactical goals and objectives that guarantee performance objectives are met or exceeded.  Drive safety performance and culture at all locations and at all levels of management.  Instill a public and employee safety mindset that results in a safety culture and an injury free work environment. 

 

  1. Responsible for overall management of costs and approval of major expenditures. Lead and support strategic planning processes to balance funding and operational objectives – driving value creation for Entergy’s Utility jurisdictions. In coordination with the plant managers, track and control budget, schedules and quality to meet allotted budgets and critical milestones. Oversee monthly variance reporting. 

 

  1. Ensure plant reliability, asset protection and compliance. Proactively monitor and enhance plant efficiency, operations and maintenance excellence and compliance in collaboration with plant managers and the respective operations support staff. Drive and support implementation/adoption of new fleet wide programs, processes, procedures, guidelines and standards for achieving operational and maintenance excellence and cultural change across Power Generation in multiple areas (e.g., work management, ops, maintenance, human performance, etc.). Actively involved with ongoing fleet wide continuous improvement. 

 

  1. Represent Entergy with external stakeholder associated with particular facility(ies), as applicable. Provide support for legal entity management as necessary. Work closely with Capital Projects on construction of new plants/power generation units, if applicable.  As needed, serve as back-up for VP, Power Plant Operations. Maintain community relationships and provide support to communities in which Entergy operates.  Serve as management representative with labor union, if applicable.

10+ years relevant experience 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position 

  • Knowledge and technical expertise in power plant operations and maintenance—understanding the key drivers for safe, reliable, cost effective and compliant operation 

  • Leadership skills, including the ability to effectively coach others and hold employees accountable 

  • Proven ability to quickly assess the business, identify key issues affecting poor performance, and implement successful solutions 

  • Broad business knowledge with understanding of how utilities make money in a regulated market. Financial management skills with the ability to develop and manage a budget. Business Acumen/Industry knowledge (regulated/non-regulated environment) 

  • ability to think strategically and plan for the future while still focusing on day-to-day operations. Ability to manage multiple priorities with -effective prioritization of competing issues, recognizing relevant constraints and opportunities. Ability to lead organization through change management initiatives 

  • Ability to communicate clearly, consistently, and diplomatically to all levels of organization, including executives, and in public forums 

  • Preference for candidate with regulatory knowledge (e.g. OSHA, NERC, FERC, EPA, other) associated with operation of a power plant
