JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Leads the Transmission Risk Controls organization and provides direction and oversight for the risk assessment processes and technical reviews of the Transmission capital and O&M portfolio execution. Maintains a strong focus on identifying and mitigating risks associated with work execution which may compromise the reliable operation of the transmission system, with a focus on minimizing risk for nuclear, industrial, and other strategic customers.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the Transmission Risk Controls organization and provides direction and oversight for the risk assessment processes and technical reviews of the Transmission capital and O&M portfolio execution. Maintains a strong focus on identifying and mitigating risks associated with work execution which may compromise the reliable operation of the transmission system, with a focus on minimizing risk for nuclear, industrial, and other strategic customers.
  • Provides supervision for the technical reviews of construction strategies and documents pertaining to the reliability risk associated with tasks being performed by all organizations within Transmission. Ensuring reviews of the work being performed, objectively identify risk and ways to manage, mitigate, or eliminate risk while identifying potential work bundling opportunities
  • Provides direct supervision to a staff of risk engineers, including coaching, training, effective resource management, providing technical guidance, and quality assurance.
  • Serves as a primary contact for making decision on questions related to completing risk assessments while promoting and establishing a team environment that works cohesively together to evaluate the reliability risk associated with activities in one or more of the following key areas, relay protection & control, operations, substation and transmission line maintenance, and capital projects.
  • Will lead, participate, and develop procedures, metrics and training materials supporting implementation of risk processes across all of Transmission, as well as challenge the transmission organizations to apply consistent Risk Controls processes.
  • Lead critical evolution meetings with all necessary stakeholders centered on the risk profile of the tasks and projects being evaluated.
  • Provides input to design engineers, construction engineers, planning, and project managers on ways to reduce the reliability risk while developing their project scope of work and construction sequence. Actively participate in project team meetings to discuss risk profiles in early development stages of proposed projects.
  • Maintains routine interface with leadership in Transmission Grid, Capital Projects Construction & Project Management, Transmission Operations Planning, and TCC/DOC to ensure all are aligned with the objectives of the risk control processes and actively working to champion and support risk mitigation measures.  Works across organizational functions and identifies opportunities to challenge and support personnel responsible for design, operations, maintenance, and construction activities. 
  • Interfaces extensively with nuclear leadership to ensure alignment of approach in mitigating risk to Entergy’s nuclear generating facilities for both planned and emergent work. Serves as a liaison to nuclear on all nuclear procedures and agreements pertaining to transmission. 
  • Supports storm and incident response as a member of the System Incident Command Operations Section staff.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical degree with emphasis in electrical or mechanical or applicable course of study or related work experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering


Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in any of the following Transmission duty area combinations: Design, Construction or Project management with proven leadership capabilities
  • Preferred:
    • Project management experience with emphasis on risk evaluation and execution.
    • Experience with nuclear electrical maintenance and transmission distribution interface, coordination, and execution.
    • Risk management experience with elements of procedure development and behavior changes.


Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of substation maintenance, relay, settings and transmission line design practices, standards, procedures, and processes.
  • Thorough understanding of design, planning, project management, operations and/or construction practices.
  • Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of moving frequently between multiple tasks, while prioritizing conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and documentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; team player.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.
