Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro and petroleum coke plants, with total engineering capacity of over 18,500 megawatts and is building or acquiring more than 3,000 megawatts of new natural gas generation to join its 30,000 megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric and solar facilities.
Job Summary/Purpose:
Serves as the lead person on shift in the operation and maintenance of the systems associated with a fossil fuel fired power generation facility while demonstrating safety awareness, environmental, and regulatory compliance and direction that will continuously improve performance by employees and contractors through the use and strict adherence to procedures and processes. Serve as a contract manager over scheduled work which will include managing the associated budgets. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) or Champion over assigned applications or processes such as Risk Management Assessments, PCI/Epower, Simulator Training, etc.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serves as the lead on shift and provides work direction to others on shift.
- Ensures assigned work within the plant results in safe and reliable operation.
- Facilitates and coordinates Shift Safety meetings / Job Briefings for all personnel on the same shift.
- Promotes and ensures a safe work environment, including use of Human Performance tools.
- Mentors and provides training to develop other employees in the operations training progression plan.
- Responsible for Contractor Safety on their shift and conducts Contractor Safety Orientations as needed.
- Fills in for Team Leaders in their absence.
- Maintains regulatory compliance and is proactive in avoiding reportable violations and if an event occurs, coordinating with all agencies as appropriate.
- Performs site safety/environmental audits and acts to mitigate hazards.
- Makes real time decisions and provides work direction regarding the operation of the equipment in a safe, efficient and reliable manner.
- Performs startup and shutdown functions of boiler, turbine, generator and associated equipment as required per instructions from the SPO- Energy Management Organization.
- When un-planned absences occur after hours, ensures adequate shift coverage through contact of other qualified personnel.
- Upon progression to this level, the employee should have completed all the board operator qualifications and is working as the designated lead control board operator.
- Operational duties include, but are not limited to operating the control board, periodically making operational rounds, performing PM/PDM activities, managing boiler water chemistry, and CEMS monitoring and calibrations.
- Lead the effort to develop and review operating procedures and rounds.
- Applies understanding and knowledge of plant systems, burner controls (where applicable) turbine controls, data acquisition, process controls, regulating devices, personal computers, troubleshooting, etc.
- Applies skills to perform inspections, calibrations, installations, repairs, diagnostics, testing and troubleshooting of complex instrumentation equipment and regulating devices in a fossil fuel fired power generation facility, alone and as part of a team.
- May perform mechanical work involved in inspection, repair and installation of instrumentation and electrical equipment, and PM of mechanical systems.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum education required of the position
- 2 Year Associate Degree in Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation/Controls or Production/Process Technology or equivalent work experience.
- Desired:
- Curriculum including the following: AC / DC Theory; Programmable Logic Controllers - troubleshooting and logic development; process control valve positioners; water chemistry analytical instrumentation; calibration practices and procedures or other similar coursework and/or experience.
Minimum experience required of the position
- Must have completed all current qualifications to be a certified control board operator in the designated plant as well as have 6+years’ experience in a CCGT or fossil fuel fired power generation facility in an Operation or Maintenance position or 6+ years of other power plant operations/maintenance/electrical experience.
- Desired:
- 10+ years’ experience working on drum or supercritical units
- Previous leadership experience

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
- Must be good at communicating, both verbal and written, the results of evaluation of assignments to supervision.
- Must be comfortable being a change agent with the goal of improving processes and plant performance for the benefit of the plant and company.
- Ability to interpret and comprehend P&ID's, electrical schematics, network diagrams and OEM manuals.
- Use of personal computer applications is necessary daily to log equipment data, log time worked and to communicate with various levels of our organization.
- Strong computer literacy with a preference for skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
