Job Summary/Purpose

Provides leadership, direction and oversight for all Substation Design Engineering activities, including preliminary project scoping and planning, project estimating, engineering and material specifications, drawing development, design reviews and approvals, contract management, workgroup direction and strategic planning, configuration management, standards development, and compliance.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accountable for tracking and controlling the engineering phase of project costs, project schedules, and engineering quality to meet all project goals, achieve critical milestones and accomplish required levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Accountable for the resolution of technical substation engineering conflicts that affect cost, schedule quality or customer satisfaction.
  • Respond to substation-related regulatory compliance issues; Provide technical engineering expertise in developing responses to regulatory requests from FERC, NERC, SERC and other regulatory bodies. Participate in industry forums, serving as Entergy's Substation Design representative on national, industry committees.
  • Ensure the integration of safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management practices into final substation products/designs/processes.
  • Accountable for effective Substation Design resource management, including workload distribution, resource productivity, contractor management and employee development.
  • Develop and provide processes and tools to improve project cost, cycle time and quality.

 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

 

Minimum experience required of the position

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the utility industry with experience in various engineering disciplines.

Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Extensive knowledge of substation design practices, standards, procedures and processes; Thorough understanding of planning, project management, operations and/or construction. Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously. Capable of moving frequently between multiple tasks, while prioritizing conflicting priorities. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company. Sound analytical, problem solving and documentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills; team player. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position

Professional Engineer registration in at least 1 state in Entergy service area desired.
