Job Summary/Purpose
The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engineer, Senior Lead designs, develops, and maintains marketing automation solutions in support of utility customer communications and regulatory commitments. This role partners with all teams within the Integrated Customer Organization, corporate communications, energy efficiency, regulatory strategy and utility operating companies to deliver accurate, timely, and personalized outreach across all customer segments. The engineer contributes to the reliability and performance of the marketing technology stack, enabling compliant communications across multiple campaigns and initiatives.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Platform Development & Administration
- Develop and maintain Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions including Journey Builder, Email Studio, Automation Studio, MobileConnect, and Audience Builder
- Design and manage data extensions, segmentation logic, and contact data models aligned to utility customer hierarchies (residential, SMB, C&I, key accounts)
- Build dynamic, personalized email and SMS templates using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and AMPscript for customer programs, payment assistance, rate migration campaigns, regulatory notifications, etc.
- Monitor platform health, deliverability, and performance metrics; identify and resolve issues affecting critical customer or regulatory communications
Integrations & Data
- Build and maintain integrations between Marketing Cloud and utility enterprise systems including CIS, AMI/smart meter platforms, outage management systems (OMS), and billing platforms using AMPscript, SSJS, and REST/SOAP APIs
- Ensure data integrity, segmentation accuracy, and reliable data flows between Marketing Cloud and upstream utility systems
- Partner with IT, CRM, and enterprise data teams to support integrations with platforms such as SAP IS-U and data warehouse environments
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all outbound communications adhere to CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and applicable state PUC requirements
- Enforce data governance, privacy compliance, and security best practices across all Marketing Cloud environments
Agile Methodology
- Utilize agile methodology to iterate quickly and incorporating feedback on deliverables and outputs
- Participate in agile project management activities, such as sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives, to ensure the timely delivery of data solutions
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with customer experience and operations teams to configure and optimize Einstein Engagement tools for program enrollment and retention journeys
- Evaluate new Marketing Cloud features and releases; provide recommendations for adoption aligned to utility business priorities
- Document technical configurations, data flows, and integration architecture to support knowledge sharing and regulatory audit readiness
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to less experienced team members
- Lead platform architecture decisions, define governance standards, and serve as the primary liaison between marketing technology and enterprise IT/architecture teams
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
Cloud Engineer Sr Lead:
- 4+ years of professional experience with a bachelor’s degree; in lieu of a degree 8 years of experience in cloud engineering is required
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Technical Skills:
- Working knowledge of AMPscript, HTML, and CSS; proficiency with SSJS and REST/SOAP APIs grows with level
- Understanding of data models, SQL, and data extension management
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Specialist certification, or actively pursuing (higher certifications expected at senior levels)
- Familiarity with email and SMS deliverability best practices and CAN-SPAM/TCPA compliance requirements
- Ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into technical solutions appropriate to scope and level
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy in a regulated communications environment
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud certification
