Job Summary/Purpose  

The role of the Sr. Platform Engineer (Cloud) is to lead the AI/ML Platform teams engineering cloud technology efforts in support of the Artificial Intelligence organization, IT organization and other internal groups that wish to develop on the platform. This role will work in an integrated DevOps model to provide product ownership for the technology and tools to enable cloud. They will adopt a Platform as a Product mentality and operate with agile product development principles to improve the current platforms and build new ones.  This role will provide product ownership for our AWS and Azure environments. 

 

This platform will support products to be built that are a combination of software, data, and other digital tools that automate work processes. Platform products may leverage a combination of analytics tools to automate decision making such as descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics models. Platform products may also leverage a combination of automation tools such as robotic process automation. Platform products may also include generative AI tools, providing a conversational interface to AI products.  

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities  

1. 

Cloud Strategy and Roadmap: Develop and maintain a comprehensive cloud strategy aligned with the organization's goals, defining a roadmap for leveraging AWS and Azure services to meet business and technical requirements. 

2. 

Cloud Resource Management: Oversee the provisioning, scaling, and decommissioning of cloud resources on AWS and Azure, optimizing resource utilization for cost-effectiveness and performance. 

3. 

Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security best practices across AWS and Azure environments, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements through close collaboration with the security team. 

4. 

Architecture and Design: Collaborate with architects and development teams to design scalable and resilient cloud architectures, ensuring solutions align with best practices and leverage native cloud services. 

5. 

Cost Management: Monitor and manage cloud costs, providing recommendations for optimizing expenses and implementing cost controls, budgeting, and reporting mechanisms to track spending. 

6. 

Multi-Cloud Integration: Manage the integration of AWS and Azure services to create a cohesive and interoperable cloud environment, ensuring seamless communication and data flow between the two platforms. 

7. 

Automation and Orchestration: Implement automation and orchestration solutions to streamline deployment, configuration, and management tasks, utilizing tools like AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager, and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC). 

8. 

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for cloud-based applications and services, conducting regular testing of disaster recovery procedures to ensure readiness. 

9. 

Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Implement monitoring solutions for cloud infrastructure to track performance, availability, and reliability, analyzing metrics and optimizing configurations to enhance overall system performance. 

10. 

Vendor Management: Build and maintain relationships with AWS and Azure representatives, staying informed about updates, new features, and best practices from both cloud providers to leverage the latest capabilities. 

  

 

 

Minimum Requirements 

 

Minimum education required of the position 

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business-related field or the equivalent work experience. Advanced degree or equivalent experience is a plus. 

 

Minimum experience required of the position 

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in technology roles  

  • Well-organized with good written and verbal communication, reporting and presentation skills  

  • Proven experience with AWS and/or Azure 

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills  

  • Proven experience as a Cloud Cost Management Engineer or similar role. 

  • Experience in developing and implementing cloud cost optimization strategies.  

  • Knowledge of cloud pricing models and billing structures. 

  • Working knowledge in all areas of technology (infrastructure, applications, software development, end-user platforms, IT operations) 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position 

  • Good understanding of how the utility business operates. 

  • Existing positive working relationships with existing business leadership. 

  • Understand the basics of analytics and how it might be used to solve problems. 

  • Excellent meeting facilitation skills. 

  • Self-motivated, team player, action and results oriented. 

 

Functional Knowledge: In depth understanding of project management methodology, from initial scoping to final delivery and user adoption. 

Business Expertise: Strong knowledge of business requirements for aligned business unit and how business needs are will shift over time. 

Leadership: Proven leadership skills in building, leading, and motivating high-performing teams. 

Problem Solving: Able to resolve complex problems, especially with translating business requirements to functional and operational capability and to keep projects on track. 

Impact: Deliver new projects and programs to business units and ensure that the final outcome meets their needs. 

Interpersonal Skills: Able to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, cross-functional team members, while building consensus on desired outcomes.  Effectively resolves conflicts and disagreements within the team.
