***This is a hybrid position reporting to the office 3 days a week and can be filled in The Woodlands, TX or New Orleans, LA.  Those outside those areas would need to relocate. Relocation assistance is available for this posting***

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Entergy is looking for a talented, experienced, and innovative Senior Project Engineer to be a part of the Power Development engineering team that will be driving innovation and technological advancements to enhance the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of our new power generation systems.

 

This position collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and maintain the company’s standards in engineering design for new generation plants (gas and renewables), energy storage projects, and other zero or low carbon technologies.  Applicant acts as liaison between the project management team and technical disciplines involved with projects and is the primary point of contact for the management and coordination of all technical aspects of utility scale renewable generation projects and thermal power plants. Ensures that engineering is complete, accurate and constructible for all elements of a project's scope. Oversees contractor's engineering performance and coordinates all contractor and owner's engineering interfaces in addition to ensuring projects are completed according to project construction drawings and in accordance with project specifications, schedule, quality and performance requirements. 

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the owner’s engineer and technical consultants of new generation projects in development or execution.
  • Manages the review of engineering and design to assure compliance with the contract, permits, codes, and utility design standards and supports the operations and maintenance goals of projects in development and execution
  • Supports and participates in the technical evaluation of project (solar, wind, battery, thermal powerplants, etc.) proposals to ensure conformance to Entergy’s technical standards.
  • Participates in contractor/vendor selection process to ensure sufficient due diligence of their engineering experience, competencies, and capabilities.
  • Assists contractor and vendors during design and construction to resolve technical queries (RFIs) and interface issues.
  • Assists project team with coordination of training and orientation of start-up personnel.
  • Ensures that the drawings and designs documents are organized and maintained in conjunction with Entergy’s requirements.
  • Supports construction and start-up on an as needed basis.
  • Coordinates with the project team to ensure that design of execution projects is executed in accordance with codes, specifications, schedules, and good engineering practice
  • Contributes to the development of project deliverables as necessary during each step of the stage gate process 
  • Supports/Leads cross-functional team consisting of internal Subject Matter Experts, Owners Engineers, EPC contractors and technical consultants from development of EPC contract through Permitting, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Closeout.
  • Supports/Leads technical open book engineering review process with contractors during development of major projects and applies value engineering concepts to ensure projects are competitive.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position:

Bachelor's degree in electrical, chemical, industrial, or mechanical engineering

 

Minimum experience required of the position:

Engineer Sr: 6+ years of professional experience. (5+ years with a BS with a FE, or a MS with a PE or PMP).

Desired:

  • 3 years of experience in solar and/or energy storage, or 5 years of utility project experience.
  • Experience with the design, construction, and execution of solar and battery projects
  • Experience in the design or operation of utility scale power plants or transmission system.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology to power generation this includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design of electrical power generating facilities
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of power generation facilities.
  • Critical Thinking -- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Complex Problem Solving -- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Proficient written, verbal communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable Codes and Standards
  • Desired: 
    • Knowledge of SCADA and DAS systems
    • Experience using PVsyst and/or PEPSE or similar

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position:

Desired: Professional Engineer license and/or PMP Certification
