Agent, Right Of Way (Transmission)

Acquires and manages land and land rights for transmission lines and substation sites as required. Supports Grid and PM&C teams. Works directly with Project Manager and Construction Manager to ensure projects are delivered with cost and schedule certainty. Manages risks and risk management issues to ensure risks are identified and mitigated.



  • Assists with route and site selection for proposed transmission line and substation projects to satisfy customer and engineering requirements
  • Interacts with the Regulatory, Engineering, Construction, Design, Planning, Asset Management, and Legal
  • Delivers projects with cost and schedule certainty; manages and controls costs; manages risk by identifying and mitigating risks
  • Prepares and executes various agreements/instruments, manages the process pertaining to land acquisition and right of way agreements
  • Engages landowners, attorneys, appraisers, abstractors, various contractors, foresters, banking institutions and governmental entities (local, state, or federal)
  • Acquires necessary permits such as railroad permits, highway permits, pipeline crossing agreements.
  • Develop and Execute Letter of No Objection
  • Assists the Environmental staff with acquisition of Corps of Engineers, Parish and State permits, etc.
  • Assists in the management of contract right of way personnel, reviewing expenditures and the issuance of right of way payment checks
  • Coordinates leasing and/or selling of easement rights to others for uses consistent with operational needs or requirements
  • Coordinates the sale or disposal of fee properties no longer required by the Company
  • Manage Right of Way documents in compliance with Corporate Record Retention Policies
  • Works with Transmission Line & Vegetation personnel to resolve landowner damages and encroachments
  • Assumes a Transmission Logistics role during storm restoration activities



Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent or related work experience
  • College or university degree preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • Right of Way Agent: 2 years experience in Distribution, Substation or Transmission ROW Agent Activities required.


Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • History of safe performance, active safety involvement and participation and strong desire for a safer workplace. Experience in new ROW acquisition procedures for new line construction
  • Strong Negotiation, Interpersonal & Group Communication skills
  • Strong Planning\Organization\Time Management skills. Knowledge of Transmission Line or Substation Design Standards and Construction & Maintenance practices
  • Strong Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel & Outlook, Power Point)
