JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

This position is accountable for providing leadership, direction and oversight for the Transmission and Distribution substation maintenance activities. The position promotes safe work behaviors and actions from all assigned employees and takes full responsibility for the safety culture within the workgroup.

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe work environment and safety culture exists for all assigned employees. Actively and progressively require safe work behaviors and actions from all assigned employees.
  • Provide oversight, support and direction for employees to ensure that the Work Management Process is properly followed i.e. work identification, work prioritization and scheduling.
  • Provide oversight, support and direction for employees to adhere to committed O&M, SERC, and capital maintenance program
  • Manage group resources to achieve group maintenance, reliability, and safety goals.
  • Work closely with management, planners, operations coordinators, and staff to ensure substations within geographic area are maintained and operated efficiently and in a reliable and safe fashion.
  • Provide oversight, support and direction for employees to ensure that the Work Management Process is properly followed i.e. work identification, work prioritization and scheduling. 
  • Develop, supervise and direct the annual substation preventative, diagnostic and corrective maintenance program.
  • Ensure personnel adhere to the FERC/NERC/SERC compliance, configuration management, and maintenance procedures.
  • Manage workforce mandated safety and compliance training.
  • Provide development opportunities for employees through training opportunities, both in house and external.
  • Effectively communicate with residential, commercial, and industrial customers as well as internal control centers, power generation, nuclear, and customer service groups.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • Associate Degree or Technical Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience
  • Preferred: Engineering Degree

 

Minimum Experience:

  • At least 4 years of substation relay, and protection and controls related experience (engineering, construction, or maintenance/operations)
  • Preferred: At least 6 years of related work experience with several years of supervisory experience (engineering, construction, or maintenance/operations)

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of:
    • Transmission system protection and controls
    • Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)
    • Relay maintenance for transmission line, potential transformers, transformers, bus differential, underfrequency, and disturbance monitoring relaying
    • Protection system commissioning and testing
