* The preferred location of this position is Beamont, TX but Conroe, TX or other cities surrounding the Houston area may be considered. *

 

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

This position provides safety planning support for field activities along with in-field observation and coaching of Entergy and Contract Partner leaders and front-line personnel. This position promotes safe work behaviors and actions from all assigned employees and contractors. 

 

This position supports the transmission organization in the execution of current and new safety initiatives and programs as well as related work products, including presentations, workshops, communications, policies, and rules.

 

The position also serves to interface with field and operations leadership across transmission to ensure consistent interpretations of rules, rules changes, safety updates, communications, etc. 

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe work environment and safety culture exists for all employees and contract partners in responsible area. Actively and progressively reinforce and coach safe work behaviors and actions. 
  • Provide input into and implement activities related to specific safety initiatives/programs to improve employee and contractor safety performance and reduce injuries and accidents.
  • Work with Transmission Safety organization's team to ensure consistent system-wide application of safety processes and procedures across the Transmission organization.
  • Must have excellent communication skills so as to interact effectively with all levels of employees and contractors.
  • Must have the ability to influence and motivate a diverse and geographically dispersed employee and contract work force dealing with a wide variety of safety issues.
  • Supports the workforce (in-house and contract), including, but not limited to: analyze events and safety related issues on the Entergy system, perform field observations to assure compliance of OSHA regulations and Entergy safety rules and procedures, assist during accident analysis and support training of Entergy safety rules and procedures.
  • Must be familiar with and have the ability to interpret OSHA regulations and provide guidance to management on the proper application of these regulations in the workplace.
  • Provide program development and support for safety initiatives specific to Transmission.
  • Prepare reports and presentations as needed.
  • Support transmission safety training & workshops.   
  • Drive safety consistency throughout transmission by direct interaction with field safety specialists, supervisors, etc.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent or related work experience.
  • Technical degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in the area of Safety.

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Safety Specialist I: 0 - 1 year of related experience.
  • Safety Specialist II: at least 2 - 3 years of related experience.
  • Safety Specialist III: at least 4 - 5 years of related experience.
  • Safety Specialist Sr: at least 6 years of related experience.
  • Preferred: Previous utility Transmission or Distribution experience.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of transmission safe work procedures, OSHA, and DOT regulations applicable to position.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong capabilities to work with computers and related technology.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments.
  • Capable of working multiple tasks simultaneously with adherence to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leader in working safely and identifying and correcting unsafe work conditions and practices.
  • Experience in utility or construction safety/training desired.
  • Ability to take and understand directives and complete tasks.
  • Ability to make timely and safe decisions.
  • Strong problem solver.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Self-motivated and dependable team player.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.
  • Ability to maintain and care for Company equipment properly and safeguard assets.
  • Ability to meet employees and contract partners in a pleasant and tactful manner.
  • Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change.

 

Any Certificates, Licenses, etc.:

  • Be able to maintain a valid Driver's License, CCA/PEL access card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.
  • Preferred: Recognized safety professional certification(s), e.g. COSS, COSM, CUSP, ASP, CSP, etc.
