Position summary/purpose:
Manage and oversee the daily operations of a power plant within area of responsibility

 

Job duties/responsibilities:

  • Foster the importance of a safety-oriented culture.
  • Champion strategic vision and direction of the organization.
  • Meet system load requirements and monitor operations for efficiency and safety ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are followed.
  • Oversees, leads and directs plant shift staff, including operations and maintenance 
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to make appropriate decisions 
  • Be an active participant in safety culture; lead the team by example, and coach, mentor and develop direct reports to exceed their individual and plant goals.
  • Act as a change agent for the plant with the daily initiative of improving morale and staff engagement.
  • Support plant efforts to ensure stakeholder expectations are met; continue to foster and maintain an inclusive and diverse environment.
  • Provides direct management to the current Entergy Safety Process. Ensures compliance with Corporate Safety standards and approved practices for the protection of all personnel. Ensures the safe isolation/lock-out and restoration of site equipment.
  • Provides continuous monitoring of boilers, turbine/generators, and auxiliary equipment ensuring the safe and reliable operation of plant equipment.                                                                            
  • Manages and supports Entergy's core processes, and initiatives which include Plant Operations Excellence, Commercial Commitment to Excellence, NERC Standard Compliance, Unit Reliability, Surveillance Testing, Operations Transactions Systems, Utility Group Safety Process, Operations Information Systems, Operator Skills Development Process, Environmental Compliance, and the Automated Tagging System.
  • Be the voice of the plant for your department.

 

Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technology-specific or business-related degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years relevant industrial professional experience in maintenance, operations or project work.

 

Desired:

  • 8-10 years of Plant Operations/Power Boiler Experience, 3-5 years of this period as a control board operator.
  • Should have an in-depth knowledge of power plant systems, unit operating practices. These attributes should be at an Operating Technician Proficiency. Be knowledgeable in unit cycle chemistry, its requirements, and corrective actions.

EEI Testing:

One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing.
