Transmission Planning Engineers are responsible for developing long-term transmission plans that provide value to Entergy stakeholders. The long-term transmission plan ensures Entergy’s transmission grid operates efficiently and remains compliant with applicable NERC Standards. The Transmission Planning Engineer will support a variety of internal planning activities and may participate on NERC, SERC or RTO committees as required. The Transmission Planning Engineer provides technical guidance to regulatory support, economic development, system planning, design, project management and construction in the development of transmission projects for the Entergy system.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply engineering principles to assess transmission grid performance, support decision-making, and interpret relevant electrical codes, procedures, standards, and internal policies.
- Support reliable grid operations by ensuring compliance with industry transmission planning standards (e.g., NERC, SERC) and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and evaluate transmission investment opportunities that yield economic benefits, leveraging engineering analysis, cost-benefit evaluations, and industry best practices to deliver value to Entergy customers.
- Utilize power system modeling software—including Steady State and Production Cost tools—to analyze current and future grid performance.
- Detect long-term grid limitations and recommend infrastructure enhancements to enable generation fleet transitions and meet evolving system needs.
- Assess generation proposals against transmission system performance criteria to support Operating Company decisions that maximize customer benefit.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to explore emerging industry trends, addressing anticipated technical challenges and strategic opportunities.
- Participate in storm response and emergency restoration efforts as needed to support system reliability and customer service.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Required of the Position:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution
- Degrees in engineering technology (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered
- Electrical Engineering Degree preferred
Minimum Experience Required of the Position:
- Engineer I: 0-2 years of experience in an engineering discipline
- Engineer II: 2-4 years of experience in an engineering discipline
- Engineer III: 4-6 years of experience in an engineering discipline
- Engineer Sr.: 6+ years of experience in an engineering discipline
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required of the Position:
- Technical mastery of power system engineering principles

- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software
