JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

 

This position provides IT Consultant services to Power Delivery, Power Generation, LBA, SPO, external partner agencies, and many internal IT groups.  This position provides lead support for the EMS, GMS, GPM, and GDM (Entergy Management System, Generation Management System, Gas Production Management System, and Gas Distribution Management System).  Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of the Power Generation SCADA equipment or similar expertise with similar SCADA equipment.  The candidate must be comfortable being a liaison between Entergy and partner agencies to help ensure accurate telemetry for system tie boundaries.  This role requires the ability to recognize telemetry issues in the SCADA systems, trace the issue to equipment (Entergy or external), and then notify appropriate personnel with a specific problem description and recommended remedy.

The candidate will also provide support for SCADA commissioning of new field device installations that affect the SCADA systems.

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide operational support, ensuring production systems and devices are online and available; this includes non-business hours on-call support and requires participating the team’s on-call rotation
  • Support weekly SCADA System Database Updates and Site Transfers for the EMS, GMS, GPM, and GDM SCADA systems
  • Provide customer support and services for problems reported via service tickets.  Primary customers include personnel from the Entergy TCCs, DOCs, LBA, field relay, engineering departments, and partner agencies
  • Troubleshoot communication to SCADA devices including break/fix activities and interfacing with partner agencies
  • Support functionality and compliance requirements for team-owned assets at Entergy’s data centers
  • Perform/support transmission field device hardware and checkouts.  This ensures that equipment is fully functional and safe before being energized.  This is fundamental to company safety and compliance initiatives.
  • Perform and conduct new equipment testing including RTUs, relays, meters, line sensors, IEDs, etc.
  • Develop and provide training to end users on assigned systems
  • Train new contractors and employees on SCADA checkouts and on the field devices that are involved in the work being done
  • Assists in the deployment of new equipment across the power generation fleet.  This includes physical SCADA equipment such as remote terminal units, IEDs, and interconnections to plant systems (namely distributed control systems and unit revenue metering).
  • Analyze user processes and requirements to identify potential improvements
  • Understand business needs and objectives, and then provide tailored solutions based on technical and compliance expertise
  • Communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing
  • Effectively collaborate with teammates in a virtual environment to provide project support, receive training, provide training, collaborate on projects, and seek continuous improvement opportunities
  • Define and adhere to company processes and procedures used to comply with numerous industry standards. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical degree

 

Minimum experience

  • 8+ years working with SCADA assets within Operations Technology, Transmission, Distribution, or Generation facilities (other equivalent technical experience might be considered) 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of  NERC CIP and other electric-utility-applicable standards
  • Knowledge of electric power and/or generation system operations
  • Knowledge of protocols including DNP, 8979, SEL FM, and other legacy protocols
  • Knowledge of RTU configuration software (e.g. Subnet Solutions SSNET, AcSELerator RTAC, GE Config Pro, DS Agile Studio)
  • Knowledge of SCADA host front-end database

 

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of the design, development, and testing of real-time system applications and enhancements
  • Knowledge of system hardening, patch management, and configuration management
  • Knowledge of telecommunications from RTUs to SCADA host front-ends (e.g. 4-wire, T1, IP connections)
