Maintain control over area of responsibility. Maintain control over assigned core function that could include: Environmental Concerns, Primary and Secondary PWR Chemistry Controls, Chemical Control Program, Training Coordinator, Water Treatment, Closed Cooling Waters, or Chemistry Instrumentation Specialist.


  • Air, Water, and Hazardous Waste Program Permit Implementation, Compliance, and Reporting
  • Owns Sewage Plant processes
  • Trend Review of Plant Data at least Weekly for Area of Specialty
  • Contract Manager for Contracts in Area of Specialty or as assigned
  • Technical Review of Training Materials in Area of Specialty
  • Identify, document, and schedule corrective Work Order in Area of Specialty
  • Develop and maintain strategies that result in high level of Equipment Reliability and Readiness to Function
  • Provide guidance/ recommendations for sampling and analysis for troubleshooting system performance
  • Interface with System/Design Engineering/OPS/RP as applicable for Programs
  • Develop and maintain strategic plans for area of expertise
  • Support initial or continuing training by developing, reviewing, and presenting lesson plans in areas of expertise as needed.
  • Complete required training activities to support areas of responsibilities including required periodic off-site training (such as “smoke school”, sewage treatment plant operation, or drinking water licenses)
  • Ensure site chemistry procedures meet or exceed industry guidance. Perform/Review procedure changes as assigned
  • Participate in fleet/industry peer groups, working meetings, assessments, and benchmarks to ensure best practices are consistently employed
  • Provide Support for Outage Planning & Preparation
  • Maintain Emergency Response Organization Qualification and complete Duties as assigned
  • Corrective Action Program Products are completed with quality one business day in advance, or success path is communicated to Manager
  • Maintain Hazardous Material Shed & Satellite Waste locations in good housekeeping conditions
  • Training is completed 14 days in advance and Qualifications Maintain currency
  • Other activities as designed by Chemistry Management


Minimum education required of the position
B.S. Degree in Chemistry or related technical degree may be credited for up to 4 years of experience, or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Hp/Chem Spec II (Nuc): 2+ years commercial or military nuclear experience.
  • Hp/Chem Spec III (Nuc): 4+ years commercial or military nuclear experience.
  • Hp/Chem Spec Sr (Nuc): 6+ years commercial or military nuclear experience.
  • Desired: At least 2 years experience in the associated department.


Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position 

  • Knowledge in Gamma Spectroscopy
  • Knowledge in Chemistry Laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control
  • Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation
  • Desired: Proficiency with current computer business applications.
  • Desired: Knowledge in state Department Of Environmental Quality regulations

4.4.3 Chemistry and Radiochemistry. At the time of initial core loading or appointment to the position, whichever is later, the responsible person shall have five years experience in chemistry of which one year shall be in radiochemistry at an operating nuclear power plant. Two years of this five years experience shall be related technical training. A maximum of four years of this five years experience may be fulfilled by related technical or academic training."
