*This position will be filled as a Health Physicist II, III, Sr, Sr Lead or Sr Staff based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. *

 

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Contributing as part of the site team, performs well defined technical evaluations, calculations and health physics work, including in the specialized station technical program areas, such as dosimetry, instrumentation, respiratory protection and ensures programs are compliant from a regulatory, technical and programmatic perspective.

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tracks and monitors RP metrics. Performs in-field observations of technical work and ensures compliance with technical procedures. Generates corrective actions to ensure programs are free of regulatory risk.
  • Attends meetings representing radiation protection on technical programmatic issues. Participates in the fleet technical peer team and works with fleet peers to benchmark and improve programs to industry best performance.
  • Performs self-assessments of programs to identify problems and systematically corrects, develops technical procedures, investigates and resolves well defined technical health physics problems and assists in the evaluation and purchase of new equipment or software products. Conducts routine scientific and related projects with minimal oversight.
  • Conducts clearly defined projects and assignments with a focus on development, under the supervision of more senior health physicists. Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation and calculations associated with the resolution of well-defined health physics issues of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Supports the site in the implementation of technical procedure changes, including appropriate communications and change management.
  • Implements corrective actions and self-assessments to improve department performance and supports the development of training to improve department performance.
  • Serves as a member of the emergency response organization

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Supervisor will review EKSA for candidates without a degree
  • Desired: Bachelor of Science in Health Physics or related science or Engineering

 

Minimum Experience Required for this Position:

  • Health Physicist II:
    • With a BS degree, 2-4 years Health Physics experience
    • Without a degree, 6 years Health Physics experience
  • Health Physicist III:
    • With a BS degree, 5-7 years Health Physics experience
    • Without a degree, 8 years Health Physics experience
  • Health Physicist Senior:
    • With a BS degree, 8-10 years Health Physics experience
    • Without a degree, 10 years Health Physics experience
  • Health Physicist Senior Lead:
    • B.S. Degree in Health Physics, Desired M.S. Degree in Health Physic
    • 10+ years Health Physics experience
    • Required: CHP
    • Desired: PE, or NRRPT
  • Health Physicist Senior Staff:
    • B.S. Degree in Health Physics, Desired M.S. Degree in Health Physics 
    • 10+ years Health Physics experience
    • Required: CHP
    • Desired: PE, or NRRPT

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possesses and applies concepts and practices to difficult assignments; broad know how of practices and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Develops positive working relationships to effectively co-ordinate work activities.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications. Maintains accurate records and files
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments, changing priorities and differing situations and can make decisions that may affect the work of a team.
  • Possesses and applies health physics theories and principles
  • Proficient in health physics technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical health physics information and instructions
  • Understands practices of research, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

 

Minimum Requirements: Certifications / Licenses

  • Required: ANSI 4.4.4
  • Desired: CHP, PE, or NRRPT
