JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
The DOC Switching Engineer position will require the knowledge and ability to learn the appropriate electric distribution, transmission and substation systems. It also requires knowledge of existing Distribution Relaying and ability to understand future relaying schemes.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide oversight and support for the operation of the Switching/SCADA Desks in the AR Distribution Operations Center.

 

Build excellent team communications between the DOC, TOC, Transmission, Networks, Construction, Resource Management, and Asset Planning groups to provide excellent customer service.

 

Provide continuous training for DOC dispatchers working Switching/SCADA desk. Coordinate all planned and unplanned switching per System guidelines to maximize SAFETY of field personnel and minimize exposure and loss of service to Entergy’s customers. 

 

Write, check, and deliver planned, unplanned, and contingency switching orders to requester(s) in a timely manner. 

 

Monitor SCADA exception lists to insure all alarms not cleared in a timely manner are followed up with Transmission and all abnormal devices are properly tagged. 

 

Demonstrate ongoing commitment to system reliability by identifying and reporting potential reliability issues.

 

Review contingency switching orders to insure proper executed and documented. 

 

Review AMFM anomaly list on a regular basis to insure the system is properly configured.

 

Be able to work extended hours and be available for 24 hour callout during emergency restoration efforts due to inclement weather, major outages, and planned outage/switching events.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution.

Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four year accredited institution with PE may be considered.

Minimum experience required of the position

Engineer II - 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Engineer III -  4+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Knowledgeable of engineering principles. Ability to understand and comply with procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Good leadership skills. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent math skills. Excellent project management skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Familiar with National Electrical Safety Codes and National Electrical Code. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards. Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service. Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change.

Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be available for 24 hour call out and extended hours as necessary.
