Job Summary/Purpose
All members of Entergy’s safety function are expected to own safety, work proactively to prevent incidents, and continuously seek improvement with the understanding that zero harm is possible. This position is responsible for examining the workplace and worksite for environmental or physical factors that may affect employee or contract partner health, safety, comfort, and performance. Ensuring the workplace is as safe as possible is achieved through conducting risk assessments, safety analyses, job‑site reviews, procedural reviews and providing coaching to reinforce safe work expectations.
Senior and Lead Safety Specialists are expected to possess and demonstrate leadership and mentorship capabilities with Entergy employees and contract partners, modeling safe behaviors and guiding others in the application of safety processes, procedures and expectations. The individual in this role must be a self‑starter and a confident decisionmaker who can work with minimal oversight. In addition, the person must live strategically within the assigned territory to effectively support site needs and maintain a consistent and visible field presence.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of safety programs in accordance with management system elements.
- Conduct training as necessary to ensure applicable rules, procedures, and expectations are clearly understood.
- Conduct engagements and observations with employees and contract partners, providing immediate coaching on safe and unsafe conditions.
- Lead, plan, and schedule field and site inspections; document deficiencies; and develop sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Lead or participate in the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective and preventive actions.
- Set and reinforce safe work expectations in accordance with applicable laws, rules, procedures, and company standards.
- Review safety‑related data and metrics to identify trends and recommend corrective actions to address identified issues.
- Lead efforts in coordination with key stakeholder leadership to plan, design and implement effective emergency response procedures for individual sites within the fleet.
- Stop work if any unsafe condition or action is observed.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and support to other safety professionals.
- Take an active role in the planning of upcoming work to help identify potential safety issues and develop appropriate solutions.
- Travel approximately 80% across the assigned territory to support site needs, conduct field engagements, and ensure consistent program implementation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
- Safety Specialist Senior: Bachelor Preferred
- Safety Specialist Lead: Bachelor Required
Minimum Experience:
- Safety Specialist Senior: 6-10 years industry experience with a minimum of 3 years in safety
- Safety Specialist Lead: 10+ years industry experience with a minimum of 4 years in safety
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Working knowledge of construction and general industry safety regulations.
- Ability to observe and engage effectively with employees and contract partners.
- Experience conducting investigations and root‑cause analyses using tools such as Taproot, Cause Mapping, Fishbone, and Five Whys.
- Skilled in analyzing and interpreting data to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Ability to interact with customers and the public in a pleasant, professional, and tactful manner.
- Ability to manage multiple activities, shifting priorities, and time‑sensitive tasks.
- Ability to understand and identify gaps between procedures and their applicability in the field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work irregular hours and travel for out‑of‑town assignments as required.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to utilize safety systems, reporting tools, and digital platforms effectively.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities with the capability to think critically and “outside the box” when developing solutions.
- Strong knowledge and understanding in fire and emergency response procedures in rural areas.
