JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Must actively participate and successfully complete a training program under the direction of the Mississippi Training and Evaluation Committee (TEC). Under close and directive supervision, perform any work required for construction, installation, maintenance, and testing of all types of equipment used in the communication, control, and protection of electrical transmission and distribution lines, substations, and generating station equipment.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, altering, removing, or replacing equipment or devices used in the protection, operation, or maintenance of circuit breakers, voltage regulators, transformers, generators, associated communication facilities, and other related equipment.
- i.e. Relay calibration, relay functional checks, AC testing, CT testing, and RTU (SCADA) programming.
- Checking new and existing installations of relay and control equipment in substations to verify correctness of operation.
- Constructing relay panels and control switchboards, including cutting, mounting, wiring, and painting, as required for a new job or for modifications to existing equipment.
- Planning and performing switching operations associated with the maintenance of substation equipment.
- Actively participate in monthly safety meetings and yearly training activities.
- Be able to operate a van or light truck in a safe manner.
- Perform other related physical or less skilled work as directed.
- Performing assigned duties under established methods and procedures as directed and carrying out work assignments under observation or checking from time to time by a Supervisor, an Engineer or another qualified Relay personnel.
- Be available for after-hours callout and able to travel to other service territories for support when needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred: 2-year technical degree in Electrical or Computer Technology.
Minimum Experience:
Relay Tech I:
- 0 - 2 years of experience without Associates Degree.
- 0 - 1 years of experience with Associates Degree.
Relay Tech II:
- at least 2 - 4 years of experience without Associates Degree.
- at least 1 - 3 years of experience with Associates Degree.
Relay Tech III:
- at least 4 years of experience without Associates Degree.
- at least 3 years of experience with Associates Degree.
Relay Tech Sr:
- at least 6 years of electrical/electronics/metering/controls experience without Associates Degree.
- at least 5 years of experience with Associates Degree.
Any Certificates, Licenses, Etc.:
- Successful completion of the EEI TECH test.
