JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
This purpose of this job is to serve as a role in an accounting function. The job will be responsible for and/or execute key accounting processes. The job will also entail leading system and/or process improvement initiatives as well as being required to communicate financial or project related results. The assignments will vary from one incumbent to another but will require leadership and strong analytical skills by efficiently using knowledge of tools and business processes to identify problems and resolve issues.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs assignments requiring understanding and application and review of accounting principles, practices, and concepts (i.e. preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, etc.).
- Accepts ownership of business processes and associated controls.
- Provides customer service to internal and external customers.
- Provide leadership in a project or team environment.
- Maintains monthly accounting associated with fuel burns, fuel inventories and purchase power expenses.
- Prepares monthly analysis and communicates results of financial analyses to management.
- Supports month end close, various regulatory filings, and responses to internal and external data requests.
- Identify and assist in continuous improvement opportunities to streamline processes and reporting for fuel and purchase power expenses.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum experience required of the position:
- Accountant I: With degree, 0+ years of experience in accounting or payroll processing lieu of degree minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting or payroll processing is required.
- Accountant II: With Degree, 2+ years of experience in accounting or payroll processing. In lieu of degree minimum 6+ years’ experience in accounting or payroll processing is required.
- Accountant III: 3+ years of business experience in banking, finance, project development or related fields.
- Accountant Lead: 5+ years of business experience in banking, finance, project development or related fields.
- Accountant, Sr. Lead: 8+ years of business experience in banking, finance, project development or related field
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
- Knowledge: Proficient in the application of accounting controls and processes; Displays strong analytical skills by efficiently using knowledge of tools and business processes to identify problems and resolve issues; Utility accounting experience; working knowledge of the FERC uniform system of accounts a plus; Advanced knowledge of Entergy business and processes; Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley requirements and testing in coordination with internal and external auditors.
- Skills: Excellent leadership and organizational skills; Excellent oral and written communications skills; Proficient in use of MS Office application.
- Abilities: Ability to work independently and team environment; Strong focus on process improvements; Ability to lead project teams.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
- Professional Certifications like CPA or making progress toward CPA preferred.
