Job Summary/Purpose

The position is responsible for the corporate insurance programs and related risk management activities of Entergy Corporation and its subsidiaries. This includes a Risk Engineering group (team of four engineers that cover fire protection and machinery operations (boiler/spinning /solar)) and relationship management with brokers, underwriters and mutuals.  

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Directs and manage a team of Risk Management and Risk Engineering professionals in the identification and analysis of all factors with the potential for causing financial or operational losses. Evaluates loss exposures and recommends the commercially reasonable limit of insurance and retention for the exposure.
  • Analyzes property and casualty insurance needs and secures policies, including negotiating terms, conditions, and costs. Policies include property, workers comp, directors & officers, nuclear liability, etc. Primary responsibility for claims management. 
  • Markets Entergy and its risks in the worldwide insurance markets, ensuring Entergy is seen in the most favorable light possible by underwriters. Actively leads participation in and represents Entergy’s interests in the mutual insurance companies in which Entergy is a member. Monitors developments in the insurance and loss control field and their relevance to the Company.
  • Directs the development of risk engineering/loss control standards for design, inspection, testing and operation of systems to minimize property damage and threat of fire and machinery breakdown. Primary responsibility for participation in industry engineering standards development process that have material impact on the Entergy’s operations.
  • Responsible for the Entergy Owner Provided Insurance Program and the Entergy Captive Programs. 
  • Assists in the development of jurisdictional rate case testimony regarding insurance and claims and in some instances testifies in such cases.
  • Ensures risk management policies, limits, and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, Engineering standards, and strategic priorities of the company.
  • Conducts insurance and loss control due diligence for mergers, acquisitions and divestures.
  • Provides risk management and risk engineering consultative services to operating divisions to assist them in achieving business results with a balanced approach to loss.

 

Minimum Requirements   

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Engineering or related field.
  • Relevant Masters Degree (MBA, MS) preferred.

 

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 10 years relevant work experience and prior management/supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to Travel Required: Role reports to the Treasurer and requires substantial travel (30%-40%) to Company facilities, industry events and recurring marketing trips (including travel to Bermuda and London)

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Experience developing and implementing strategic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior executives.
  • Experience managing technical personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the regulated power utility business and risk associated with regulated utilities.
  • Familiarity with power utility operational issues including transmission, distribution and power plant operations.
  • Experience with risk analysis techniques.

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPSU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) designation preferred.
