Job Summary/Purpose

Provides technical support for field support specialists working on devices such as reclosers, self-healing networks, capacitors, voltage regulators, and network protectors. Assist engineering teams in designing, testing, and deploying relays, controls, and SCADA solutions.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and support distribution automation health monitoring and analytics platform.
  • Support and improve upon distribution automation reliability reporting.
  • Develop and support distribution automation communications network monitoring and reporting for distribution devices such as reclosers, capacitors, regulator, and switchgear. 
  • Interface with stakeholders including AMI operations center, IT/OT, Telecomm, distribution operations centers, and field personnel on distribution device and communication network health and resolution of issues.
  • Provide technical support to distribution automation engineers, field support specialist, and operations as it relates to field equipment, automation, and communications.
  • Support firmware upgrade process and documentation.
  • Provide safety leadership by exemplifying strong safety culture for others to follow.
  • Support solutions for DA device configuration, templates, SCADA maps, displays, and device management system.
  • Participate in routine, non-routine, and emergency storm and outage restoration duties.

 

Minimum Requirements 

Minimum education required of the position 

Technical Degree (2-year Associate or 4 year Bachelor's) and/or years of operational experience in electric utilities commensurate with progression level (15 years for Dist Spec) 

  

Minimum experience required of the position 

6 years with 4-year Bachelor's degree, 8 years with 2-year associate degree, 10 years with supervisory experience, 15 years without degree. 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Must exemplify strong safety and leadership practices. Basic knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), and NERC protective relay standards. Knowledge of electric utility systems operation, maintenance, and construction practices. Must obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license. Demonstrated aptitude to work alone in unsupervised situations. Demonstrated computer skills: Windows, Excel, Access, Word. Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group. Ability to read and understand electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and instruction books. Computer competency required. Must be dependable and reliable, and work as member of a team. Must have good intrapersonal skills; must be self-motivated with ability to make decisions. Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card. Prior electrical substation or distribution relaying experience. Knowledge of protective relaying, SCADA, communications, and controls. Familiar with relay test plans and commissioning. Prior experience installing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting electrical equipment and controls.
