POSITION PURPOSE:

The role of the Manager, Project Controls is to provide leadership to teams in the achievement of the requirements of Entergy IT's Stage Gate Process (SGP) and project management and controls standards. It is accountable for the activities which identify, monitor, and report on project cost, schedule, issues, and risks across strategic IT programs.

 

The Manager, Project Controls is a highly visible role that interacts regularly wWith IT project stakeholders. Provides day to day management of project control team members who are responsible for core functions of the Stage Gate Process, including all cost control, scheduling, and PMO operations functions for strategic IT programs.

 

Primary Duties & Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide deep subject matter expertise (SME) in the various disciplines of project management and control; collaborate and implement continuous improvement of policies, standards, and guides that standardize and optimize project delivery across Entergy's IT organization.
  • Manages an assigned team of project controllers, schedulers, specialists and analysts.  Provides oversight, support and coaching to the project controls staff.
  • Ensures project controls are implemented on assigned capital projects in line with Management Standards and Stage Gate Process requirements.
  • Collaborates closely with project management to assess project team performance and address any gaps, identify project risks and develop mitigation plans and identify project issues and formulate plans to address the issues.
  • Reviews and validates project status reports and performance metrics for all assigned projects.
  • Provides information and reports related to project progress, estimates at completion and compliance with project controls standards to executives and to project steering committees.   Provides input to progress reports filed with regulatory bodies.
  • Identifies gaps in Entergy's project control environment and takes proactive steps to implement improvements and strengthen controls.
  • Responsible for work intake and workload management across project controls team members.
  • Human Resource Management
    • Leadership:
      • Mentor Project Analysts and Schedulers; Program and Project Managers
      • Represent the PMO with the IT organization
    • Performance Management:
      • Manage the departmental performance management process for staff employees
      • Report overall performance of Project Controls IT Leadership
      • Determine Metrics to measure Project Controls Personnel
    • Policies and Compliance:
      • Administer HR policies and programs, ensuring compliance with employment legislation. 
      • Communicates HR policies and practices in alignment with business needs
      • Determine, document, communicate, and monitor PMO and Project Management Policies and Procedures
    • Employee Relations
      • Provide proactive and employee relations advice and consultation to build and maintain a high performing and engaged team
      • Handle and resolve all employee issues, act as a mentor for staff.
    • Organizational Change:
      • Support leaders with workforce planning, planning implementing and communicating organizational change

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7+ years of project controls experience for projects in the technology sector
  • Bachelor’s and above degree in Computer Science, Information & Technology, MIS, Business or equivalent work experience.
  • Superior skills using multiple SDLC techniques (e.g. Waterfall, Agile)
  • Expert knowledge of the fundamentals of scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
  • Solid understanding of Project Management and Project Management Office
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of employment legislation and compliance requirements, HR policies and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience building and driving people and culture programs from the ground up
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships, partnerships and external networks
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent researching, decision-making and organizational skills are required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Primavera Project Management Systems
  • Work independently and follows through on assignments with minimal direction while keeping the team informed
  • Possess a mastery of basic/generic data skills (tools & concepts)
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection and other guidelines where appropriate

  • Active PMP Certification
  • Active Agile Certification
  • Primavera Certification
