Job Summary/Purpose
Provides leadership, direction and oversight for all Relay Design Engineering activities, including preliminary project scoping and planning, project estimating, engineering and material specifications, drawing development, relay settings, RTU Configurations, design reviews and approvals, contract management, workgroup direction and strategic planning, configuration management, standards development, and compliance.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic manager of relay design to lead our protection and control engineering function during a period of rapid capital portfolio expansion. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable and secure operation of transmission grid and substation systems through oversight of relay design practices, project delivery and coordination with internal and stakeholders. With a projected increase in capital investment over the next three years, the successful candidate will manage a growing pipeline of substation and transmission relay design projects. This will require strong leadership in planning, resource allocation, technical oversight, and process standardization to meet evolving system needs and regulatory requirements.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Accountable for tracking and controlling the engineering phase of project costs, project schedules, and engineering quality to meet all project goals, achieve critical milestones and accomplish required levels of customer satisfaction.
- Accountable for the resolution of technical relay engineering conflicts that affect cost, schedule quality or customer satisfaction.
- Respond to relay-related regulatory compliance issues; Provide technical engineering expertise in developing responses to regulatory requests from FERC, NERC, SERC and other regulatory bodies. Participate on industry forums, serving as Entergy's Relay Design representative on national, industry committees.
- Ensure the integration of safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management practices into final relay products/designs/processes.
- Accountable for effective Relay Design, Settings, and RTU Configuration resource management, including workload distribution, resource productivity, contractor management and employee development.
- Coordinate closely with civil, structural, substation, and line engineering teams to support effective cross-discipline collaboration.
- Collaborate with construction, commissioning and operations teams to ensure field-to-design alignment and successful system energization.
- Develop and provide processes and tools to improve project cost, cycle time and quality.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
Minimum experience required of the position
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the utility industry with experience in various engineering disciplines.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Extensive knowledge of relay design and settings practices, standards, procedures and processes; Thorough understanding of planning, project management, operations and/or construction. Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously. Capable of moving frequently between multiple tasks, while prioritizing conflicting priorities. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company. Sound analytical, problem solving and documentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills; team player. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position
- Professional Engineer registration in at least 1 state in Entergy service area desired.
