About the Job:

The Senior Infrastructure Consultant for Cloud Operations is responsible for all aspects of Entergy’s Information Technology transformation.  The position will be considered a Subject-Matter-expert that will function as a change champion in the adoption of new ways to operate efficiently and effectively within and across multiple cloud-based environments. As Entergy’s cloud advocate, this position will develop and communicate best practices around advanced cloud-based solutions and provide advice on strategies for migrating existing workloads to the cloud. The selected candidate will drive successful business outcomes across Entergy through education of personnel, designing architectures that fit the unique needs of Entergy, and building cloud solutions. This position will be tasked with developing and executing a strategy to create adoption and usage of cloud computing within Entergy’s customer-base. The position will partner with application development and security teams to maintain best practices, support continuous automated testing, instantiate automation scripts, support monitoring, and additionally promote cloud usage within our hybrid cloud environment. The selected candidate will be the subject-matter-expert working within a hybrid team responsible for moving applications to the cloud and building out new environments from scratch. The ideal person for this opportunity has knowledge of building out an infrastructure involving networking, security, routing, setting up VPC, and similar technologies using Infrastructure as Code methods. You will participate heavily in developing the architecture to build out this environment.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Trusted advisor who provides advice and counsel to management and internal business-owners on cloud solution matters. Drives solution architecture to ensure the solution strategy aligns with business strategy.
  • Leads the installation and configuration of cloud-based solutions, including platforms, related components, and integration points. Drives, designs, develops, and revises Cloud computing designs, as appropriate, based on approvals from identified stakeholders.
  • Researches and selects appropriate resources to meet business needs. Creates solutions in relation to, and use of, tools, techniques, software, hardware, programming languages and third-party tools/libraries applicable to the solution.
  • Identifies automated solutions and capabilities applicable to the customer environment. Develops automated solutions and capabilities designed for tools and technologies deployment.
  • Develops budgets to ensure the customer and company strategies and needs are supported.
  • Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Designs and presents highly complex design documents which translate into component-level presentations to accelerate understanding, acceptance, and implementation.
  • Leads development team efforts to provide flexible reusable infrastructure-based components to increase cost effectiveness.
  • Reviews and analyzes gathered information in technical research; evaluates tools and methodologies to ensure that designs adhere to current industry, client and company standards.
  • Develops and provides technical documentation, participates in test-plan development, integration, and deployment.
  • Continuously supports business process work and project sessions to ensure that product design decisions are communicated to departmental personnel.
  • Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel. Guides the work of less experienced developers to create, maintain, and communicate details of infrastructure designs to ensure that designs are according to specifications.
  • Provides technical consulting on complex projects. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity, limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Determines and recommends alternative approaches as needed implementing as appropriate.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as escalation point for all Cloud and DevOps platform support requests.
  • Provide support and guidance for operational requests regarding Cloud technology.
  • Support the creation, review, and modification of CloudFormation templates and Jenkins files.
  • Monitor the progress of a Service Provider-based support team
  • Design and implement solutions to streamline business processes to achieve company goals more effectively and efficiently.
  • Partner directly with architects and product developers to create supportable designs and debug problems.
  • Independently research new technologies and propose a method to integrate them into existing technology stack.
  • Manage project timelines and workloads.
  • Deliver solutions in an Agile methodology.
  • Promote microservice architecture best practices to development teams.
  • Create and deliver presentations and documentation to Management and Technology teams


Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum experience and education required

Bachelor’s Degree and 6+ years of professional information technology experience is required or in lieu of a degree 10+ years of professional information technology experience is required


2+ years of progressive responsibility and experience in Linux or Windows system engineering, including 1+ year(s) experience in a DevOps environment is a plus


At least 2 years' experience implementing and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure is required


Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • AWS and/or AZURE Certifications are a plus
  • Previous experience with AWS and/or AZURE GovCloud environments
  • Exposure to NUTANIX and/or VMware
  • Maintain strong communication skills to communicate with customers, support personnel and management
  • Maintain strong creative thinking, problem solving, planning, time-management, project management and organization skills to balance and prioritize work
  • Ability to think strategically about business, operations, and technical challenges
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and switch between tasks quickly

  • Experience in building Cloud-based infrastructure
  • Experience in writing Ansible playbooks a plus.
  • Good mentoring and training skills to guide and direct work of less experienced specialists
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance as needed
  • This position is remote but some travel up to 25% may be required

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in managing or designing cloud deployment software
  • Experience with CI/CD philosophy, processes, and toolsets
  • Knowledgeable of cloud architecture, networking, system administration, and security best practices
  • Experience with automation / orchestration tools such as Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or other similar products
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Broadcom, Dynatrace, etc.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code frameworks such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or other similar products
  • A solid understanding of JSON, XML, and related notational data representations
  • Understanding and experience administering version control software such as the Git management tool, including GitHub Enterprise
  • Comfortable with working in both Linux and Windows environments
  • Hands on experience with infrastructure tools such as AZURE, AWS, NUTANIX, VMware, Docker, Kubernetes, and Swarm
  • Extensive knowledge about APIs, RESTful services and how they can be used to integrate with various cloud-environments
  • Experience designing and scripting “self-healing” cloud architecture
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Developed written and oral communication skills, effective collaboration, and problem-solving skillset
  • Understanding of the importance of data privacy
  • Experience working with industry and/or company developed technology
