Job Summary/Purpose
Overall responsibility for Entergy’s financial close process. The close process includes managing the close calendar and coordinating with other accounting groups to ensure transactions are recorded timely, completely, and accurately. Responsibilities also include development and maintenance of accounting rules, allocations, and management of General Ledger system and interfaces. Maintain and enhance systems for financial and cost reporting using PeopleSoft and IBM Cognos.
Responsible for managing the account reconciliation process and system. Manage SOX Moratorium process and Archer liaison role. Manage departmental metrics and KPI’s.
Responsible for all accounting technology related issues. Serves as the liaison between IT and the accounting organization and responsible for getting the right parties engaged for the planning, execution, or resolution of routine and strategic issues. One of the lead participants in the strategic development and execution of the Finance/Accounting IT Roadmap.
Responsible for the management of Accounting’s continuous improvement programs. Role focuses on identifying process improvement opportunities, prioritization, resource allocation and staffing projects to ensure successful outcomes.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the overall close process including coordination with all groups involved. Responsible for the development and maintenance of all the routine and complex/complicated allocation and automated accounting rules in PeopleSoft General Ledger. Maintain consolidations, eliminations, equitizations and allocations. Responsible for maintenance, enhancement and accuracy of the various financial reporting ledger, databases and reporting application including the development of all standard financial and cost reports.
- Manage and maintain the accounting reconciliation system and process. Responsible for the periodic monitoring and reporting of all accounting related SOX controls in Archer. Support CAO in signing letters of representation. Works with the various groups to resolve issues and ensure controls are tested fully and timely before the quarterly certifications. Manage the annual IT SOX Moratorium approving system exceptions in the 4th quarter.
- Responsible for managing the development, monitoring and reporting of departmental metrics and KPI’s. Manages the periodic reviews with Accounting and Finance leadership.
- Provide significant input on direction and timing of IT strategic roadmap regarding Accounting’s resources and platforms. Understand the technical architecture to effectively collaborate with IT on activities impacting CAO organization or strategically planning for change. Regularly update accounting management on IT initiatives and potential impacts to the team.
Minimum experience required of the position
- 8 + years experience in accounting or financial processes and management of a mid-size team with diverse skills or mentoring of employees. Experience implementing and managing financial systems, processes, and projects.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Knowledge: Independent leader and change agent; Expert in processes, systems and controls, able to manage multiple and frequent changing priorities; Strong knowledge of Entergy and its accounting functions and systems; Good technical knowledge of accounting’ understand rate making and regulatory process for regulated utilities, possesses change management skills and results oriented. Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley requirements including testing as coordinated with internal and external auditors. Skills: Knows direct and indirect customers for all work processes and understands their needs. Abilities: Ability to identify problems, trends, and reasonableness; Identify/recommend possible solutions; Ability to supervise/develop others and coordinate with other departments/functions; Ability to understand technical environment and coordinate or strategically advise on system changes; Ability to challenge status quo to identify continuous improvement and influence change.
