*This position may be filled as a Simulator Specialist I, II, III, or Senior level based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. *

 

Job Summary/Purpose:

Modify, Maintain, Test, and Operationally Support the Control Room Training Simulator.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and modify existing simulator software models to 1) improve performance; 2) resolve differences of response between the reference power plant and the simulator modeled response, and 3) correct flaws in software code.
  • Evaluate, design, and implement the reference power plant engineering changes to the simulator software and hardware systems.  Engineering analysis for plant design changes can typically cross engineering boundaries for mechanical, electrical, civil, and reactor engineering disciplines.
  • Create/implement new designs, perform physical repairs, and coordinate all materials procurement associated with simulator system computers; 2) data networks; 3) digital acquisition systems; 4) analog control board instrumentation.
  • Create new or revise existing design/maintenance documentation associated with the simulator software systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure simulator performance adheres to industry standards and federal guidelines.
  • Coordinate commercial contracts for external engineering and other services.
  • Coordinate all aspects of configuration controls including software source code, databases, SVN, and hardware systems.
  • Participating in the analysis and interpretation of simulation results.
  • Providing technical expertise and support to end-users of the simulation software

 

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum education required for the position:

  • B.S. Degree in Information Technology, Engineering or related technical degree, or prior on-the-job experience as an Operator, Instrument & Controls Technician or IT Technician, or equivalent work experience.

 

Minimum experience required for the position:

  • Simulator Specialist, I: 0+ years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level

  • Simulator Specialist, II: 2+ years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level

  • Simulator Specialist, III: 4+ years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level

  • Simulator Specialist, Sr: 6+ years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending on the engineering level

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position

  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of integrated plant operations, or the capability to acquire this knowledge rapidly. 

  • Detail-oriented; excellent organizational, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with instructors and operations management with a minimum of direct supervision. 

  • Familiarity with software development processes and methodologies. 

  • Ability to analyze complex problems and propose innovative solutions.

  • Desired: 

    • Strong knowledge of nuclear plant thermal hydraulics.

    • Understanding of reactor physics and reactor core behavior.

    • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio.

    • Proficiency in FORTRAN and C++ programming languages.

    • Experience in software modeling logic and dynamic systems.

    • Experience maintaining digital hardware and analog instrumentation systems.

    • B.S. or Higher Degree in either Mechanical or Process Engineering.  Broader base knowledge of other engineering disciplines as electrical, civil, and reactor engineering is an advantage for this position.
