Job Summary/Purpose

Provides support to design bases by focusing on design of baseline modifications and design basis control and maintenance. Design integrity maintained through effective configuration control of design output documents (i.e., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements and procedures).

                                                                                                

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely, constructible, economic and maintenance friendly modification designs in support of plant needs
  • Interfaces with Maintenance and Operations for cost effective maintenance strategies.
  • Issues engineering changes (Design changes and temporary modifications) to support emergent plant issues and equipment reliability issues.
  • Implements action plans of senior team members to address deficiencies via the corrective action and work management processes.
  • Supports changes in system configuration/design and design basis.
  • Serves on outage engineering support teams.
  • Attends training and maintains qualifications necessary to perform required group functions.
  • Coordinate project design engineering activities with plant departments to minimize plant and system downtime and maximize plant power generation.

Minimum education required of the position                                                                       

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.  Or having another closely related scientific discipline/physical science degree generally associated with power plant operations or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience defined as demonstrated success at the engineer/technical specialist level.) is required.

 

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Engineer I: 0 – 2 years experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
  • Engineer II: 2 – 3 years experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
  • Engineer III: 3 – 4 years experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
  • Sr. Engineer - 4 - 5 years experience in nuclear design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
  • Sr. Lead Engineer - 6+ years experience in nuclear design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level and evaluation of past positions

 

  • Highly Desired: Experience with reinforced concrete structure design and construction.
  • Highly Desired: Experience with structural steel platform design and construction. 

                                                                                                                

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Identifies and resolves plant issues and acts as a liaison between engineering team and Operations and Maintenance departments.
  • Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation.
  • Outstanding communication, conflict management, and change management skills. Proficiency with current computer business applications.                                                                                                           

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position

  • Desired: SRO license or certification on a PWR or BWR; Professional Engineering license.

 

OTHER ATTRIBUTES

 

  • Functional Knowledge Requires understanding and application of procedures and concepts within Civil/Structural engineering disciplines and basic knowledge of other disciplines.
  • Experience in ASIC structural steel design and ACI reinforced concrete design code. 
  • Able to create and verify detailed calculations and review drawings created by others.
  • Preferred: Experience in using computer design software (e.g. GTStrudl)
