The Chief Nuclear Engineer is responsible for overseeing the overall engineering operations and technical aspects of a nuclear power plant or nuclear facility. They provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the plant's engineering systems and processes. The Chief Nuclear Engineer also leads a team of mechanical and electrical subject matter experts to provide comprehensive technical support and drive continuous improvement across the nuclear fleet.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • Provide support for the design, installation, and maintenance of nuclear reactor systems, control systems, and other critical engineering infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental policies.
  • Analyze and interpret technical data, performance metrics, and operational reports to identify areas for improvement and optimize plant efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and regulatory bodies, to address engineering challenges and implement solutions.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance the overall reliability, safety, and performance of the nuclear facility.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in nuclear engineering technology, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to support decision-making processes at the executive level
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources, and project timelines to ensure the successful completion of engineering initiatives

Lead a team of mechanical and electrical subject matter experts to:

  • Provide technical support for emergent issues
  • Review technical products (ODMs, troubleshooting plans, ACMPs, Op Evals, etc.)
  • Identify common gaps in equipment performance across the fleet

Initiate special projects to address technical issues, develop standards, or improve performance across the nuclear fleet

 

Minimum Requirements

BS Degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering or a related technical field. Proficient technical expertise with computer software and database development. Skills in engineering analysis, problem solving and condition assessment.

8+ years experience in an engineering discipline. Working knowledge of industry standards. Knowledge of Nuclear business practices. Mechanical Discipline: Knowledge of electrical power plant systems with particular emphasis on mechanical related systems

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Power plant operations knowledge with working experience at a generating station. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously. Good verbal and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills, team player and/or leadership skills. Self-starter, independent worker, self-motivator. Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations, codes, and standards related to nuclear engineering.  Nuclear security clearance.
