JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Data Scientist Sr is a valuable member of the analytics delivery team who builds predictive models, provides statistical analysis and data visualization services for several use cases. Data Scientist Sr works on end-to-end solutions as part of a team, designs innovative analytic models and responsible for pulling and cleaning datasets, evaluating models, and presenting results to key stakeholders.

 

Data Scientist Sr describes data using qualitative and quantitative aggregation/summarization and builds tools (interactive dashboards, web pages) allowing customers to easily view and understand important patterns and data trends. Data Scientist Sr provides quantitative comparisons of data points using advanced statistical analysis as well as traditional statistical hypothesis testing. Data Scientist SR constructs and validates predictive and prescriptive models using a variety of techniques and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Analysis performed by the position will be shared within Entergy to support the various initiatives underway that have an analytical need which will ultimately impact Entergy’s generation assets, load resources, customer view, and product and services offered to the customer.

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as part of the delivery team in developing best in practice standard and advanced prediction and prescriptive products meeting strategic business requirements that ultimately enable business units to unlock additional value from company-held data.
  • Use data from a variety of sources (databases, web, text files) and in a variety of formats (structured, unstructured etc.) and prepares the data for analysis.
  • Perform analytics, produce business cases, evaluate results, and build predictive models which generate business value and assist in the deployment/integration process.
  • Work with data engineers to produce descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive manual POCs/ MVPs and automated models providing valuable insights for business decision making.
  • Research and look out for more advanced data science concepts and algorithms and usage within Entergy.
  • Be a champion for Entergy’s Analytics efforts both inside and outside of the organization, promoting collaboration and communication through business unit driven use cases whilst building the Entergy brand in the analytics space.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

A bachelor or master’s in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering etc.) or equivalent experience.

 

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 5-6+ years in a data analytics role utilizing mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems.
  • (Preferred): Experience working in big data environments
  • (Preferred): 1+ years’ experience working in the electric and/or gas utility sector
  • (Preferred): 5-6+ year developing with SQL, Python, R, or any advanced analytics tech stack

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Mastery in at least one of the following is absolutely required: R, Python.
  • Mastery in SQL.
  • GIS skills preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in implementing and utilizing advanced statistical and machine learning techniques.
  • Communicator both at technical and strategic levels
  • Experience discussing complex and new topics in a simple, easy-to-understand way
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated writing and presentation skills
