Job Summary/Purpose

  • Directly responsible for the project control management and oversight of all stages of major capital projects development and execution that includes planning, design, permitting, construction and start-up to ensure the assigned project is safely executed with cost and schedule certainty and in full compliance with the necessary environmental and regulatory requirements. 
  • Incumbent is a bona fide leader and a strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders such as contractors, and other internal/external support groups across Entergy.
  • Responsible for both the leadership needs of his/her own Project Controls Team along with building a powerful Partnering relationship with the contractor’s team to assure there is a OneTeam® and a Project Centric approach to the execution of the work.  
  • Has the technical competence to establish project controls construction standards and practices for large capital projects. Ensures that the project is staffed with qualified control management professionals and field personnel for the effective oversight. 
  • Knowledgeable in the various technical aspects of project management and controls. While incumbent is not required to be a technical domain expert, they are required to know the fundamentals that drive their technical understanding and know when he/she is outside one’s technical depth and know where to get help when in such a situation. 
  • Always project centric and constantly focuses on the four pillars of Safety, Cost, Schedule and Quality. 
  • Strongly embraces customer centricity, continuous improvement, a passion for Power OneTeam® and a desire to reach across to colleagues in Power Generation to create the kind of collaboration required to make the project successful. 
  • An effective communicator who will frequently “stand in front of the workforce” and convey Entergy’s commitment to safety, DIB and other performance metrics.  Builds strong relationship with EPC and their sub-contractors to ensure clear channels of communication and resolution to performance issues. 
  • A passionate advocate for safety who promotes an incident free workplace and cultivates a safe work culture. Understands the foundations for a strong safety culture in its most genuine form and actively participates in safety initiatives at the project site to demonstrate commitment.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops a powerful project team that is totally focused on Project Centrism and Control; understands the requirements and contributions of critical team positions and that of the contract partner’s leadership team.
  • Has a deep understanding of project controls and is capable of monitoring progress along the critical path and other key milestones throughout the project life cycle.
  • Understands the role of the Utility in the project development process and the role of the Public Utility Commission on self-build viability.
  • Manages the development of the project vision and execution philosophy, along with deliverables necessary to progress a project through the Stage Gate Process.
  • Develops critical relationships with Power Generation, Transmission and other key stakeholders that allows incumbent to work systematically and integrate their project with the wider Entergy.
  • Full understanding of the contractual aspects of their project and the need to create a Partnering relationship with the Contract Partner.
  • Constantly works effectively to negotiate and resolve contract challenges.
  • To achieve continuous improvement, incumbent will consistently benchmark opportunities to utilize the Power OneTeam to collectively assure that performance testing, commissioning, and training of the Power Generation team is continuously exceeding existing practices.
  • Maintains a roster of contract project control personnel for executing project control activities for major projects.
  • This position is required to collaborate with the various HR groups to implement DIB initiatives across the project team.
  • Mentorship and development of their team and the individual team members.  Assures that the IDPs of each team member is complete and moving forward.

 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

  • B.S. in Engineering Discipline, Finance, Accounting, Construction Management or applicable course of study or equivalent work experience.

 

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 10 years plus power generation capital project development and management experience. Utility capital project experience essential.
  • Desired:
    • Ability to provide guidance on Project Controls by mentoring and providing regular feedback on project performance.

    • Recommend changes in organizational structure, process, or procedures based on analysis of findings.

    • Participate in meetings with customers to discuss project objectives, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.

    • Conduct interviews with customers to gather information about their needs and desires for a project’s outcome.

    • Perform analyses of data collected from surveys or interviews to identify trends or opportunities for improvement.

    • Assist in developing proposals for new projects based on customer requests.

    • Providing consulting services to project control managers by identifying problems and recommending solutions.

  • Clearly explain technical information to customers, team members and other employees.

Technical knowledge

  • Superior knowledge and experience in the field of project controls and project managment.       
  • Expert in project controls and project management and construction management control fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering and technology for utility design and construction.
  • Application of principles, techniques and procedures to the design, construction, commissioning and operations of electric utility infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of utility facilities.
  • Expert knowledge of the of scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
  • Expert knowledge of scheduling software packages and related analytics     

 

Critical Thinking 

  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
