Summary
The focus of the Director, Power Development is to design and develop competitive new power generation projects to enable and support Entergy’s growth while maintaining affordability and reliability. This position will build and manage an organization with the expertise and resources to accomplish this goal. The role includes leadership of the corporation’s new generation (gas) self-build strategy team.
This position is directly responsible for the management and oversight of all front-end loading stages of new combined and simple cycle generation project development with an effective hand-off to Capital Projects for the successful execution of the projects.
Incumbent is a bona fide leader and a strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders including internal/external support groups across Entergy and contractors. This individual is responsible for both the leadership needs of his/her own team, technology understanding and experience, along with building an effective relationship with key individuals internally with Entergy, and externally where applicable.
Duties
- Develops a powerful project development team that is totally focused on delivering power generation projects that enable the enterprise to meet the stated commitments to our customers.
- Understands the requirements and contributions of critical team positions and that of the key stakeholders.
- Understands the role of the Utility in the project development process and the role of the Public Utility Commission on self-build viability.
- Manages the development of the project vision and execution philosophy, along with deliverables necessary to progress a project through a Stage Gate Project Lifecycle Process.
- Utilizes commercial expertise to solidify commercial agreements and delivers successfully negotiated contracts with the partnership of key stakeholders.
- Supports and develops the plans for execution on the construction of natural gas fueled power stations to deliver on project goals and regulatory obligations.
- Develops critical relationships with key stakeholders that allows incumbent to work systematically and integrate projects with the wider Entergy.
- Full understanding of the contractual aspects of projects and the need to create a contracting strategy that delivers superior economic performance and that can be executed safely, with high quality while delivering cost and schedule certainty.
- Constantly works effectively to negotiate and resolve contract challenges to assure the effective development of projects.
- Works closely with the regulatory functions to support the requirement of receiving the necessary certifications, including providing written and verbal testimony before the commissions.
- Works closely with subject matter experts across Entergy’s Power Generation Environmental to determine permitting requirements and obtain the necessary permits.
- Creates a culture of inclusivity by creating a strong team dynamic, mentors and develops skills, holds a high standard of accountability to drive performance, and drives diversity programs that create value for the team and enterprise.
- Promotes safe behavior in accordance with company expectations and adherence to the safety rules on all work including projects.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
- B.S. in Engineering discipline, Construction Management or applicable course of study.
- MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
- 15+ years of experience in capital projects development and management experience.
- Power Generation project development experience essential.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
- Subject Matter Expert in project and construction management fundamentals and complicated project problem solutions with Power Generation background.
- EPC contract negotiation experience.
- History of safe performance, active safety involvement and participation and strong desire for a safer workplace.
- Supervisory experience with direct reports.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and project management applications, processes, software and equipment.
- Understanding of Industry Best Practices.
- Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience, team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
