Job Summary/Purpose

  • Strategic Initiatives:  This position within System Planning and Operations (SPO) provides executive and strategic leadership for projects, planning and tasks related to wide-ranging regulatory and compliance activities and enterprise sustainability initiatives.
  • Settlements:  The director is responsible for providing strategic support for fuel procurement, system operations, market and transmission settlements, emissions accounting and timely and accurate meter data to our ISO on behalf of the Entergy Operating Companies. This role provides system Meter Data Management Agent/Meter Data Quality (MDMA/MDQ) and provides oversight, internal management, support and participates in related regulatory filings and proceedings. 
  • MDMA & Compliance:  This position is responsible for Meter Data Management and leading and directing personnel that provide analytical and compliance policy support to the Local Balance Authority (LBA) and Energy Management Organization (EMO), as well as broader regulatory compliance for SPO (including managing records and risk controls for FERC, NERC, and SOX requirements). 

                          

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead personnel responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate settlement of transmission, natural gas, power, oil, and coal purchasing activities, and ensure that the appropriate controls are identified, documented, and implemented for each settlement process. Manage all energy accounting activities for Entergy’s Operating companies, including ability to manage, create, and analyze financial and transaction data across various operating company views.
  • Develop, define, and implement Scope 2 emission reporting strategies to support operating company and customer sustainability needs. Ensure flexible approach in strategy to account for multifaceted and evolving customer requirements, which result in more complex decision making and problem solving. Partner with internal and external industry experts, vendors, and consultants to manage the long-term customer reporting and certification requirements.
  • Lead the Meter Data Management Agent/Meter Data Quality (MDMA/MDQ) function. The team is responsible for the data exchange related to metering points between the Entergy operating companies and MISO on a real-time bases. Responsible for resolving any discrepancies between MISO, Entergy or counterparties. Oversee the commercial model and LBA service agreements with counterparties.
  • Provide oversight of compliance and support for SPO, primarily the EMO and LBA.
  • Formulate and implement the REC/AEC Strategy and associated processes to support the purchase, registry, sale, and retirement. Partner with 3rd partner vendors for development of process standards and certification.
  • Leadership and oversight of team that manages RFI processes for all SPO functions and provides strategic support on various regulatory cases and filings. In-depth understanding and ability to adapt to and navigate changing business strategies and regulatory drivers. Provide timely and accurate reporting and analysis to support requests for information from Operating Company, Regulatory, Compliance, and other entities requiring back-office settlement data. Prepare testimony and/ or provide subject matter expertise for fuel audits, litigation, and regulatory filings.  
  • Ability to work cross functionally on key strategic initiatives as they arise with all business units (i.e. Power Development, Operating Companies, Enterprise Planning, and others).           
  • Testify as needed on key litigation cases, and provide training and coaching to team to continue to build capabilities with regards to various System Planning and Operations issues at FERC and local jurisdictions. Provides subject matter expertise for litigation, and provide feedback and support peer/team capabilities and SPO’s messaging in litigation cases.
  • Actively participate as a member of various teams involved in the identification, evaluation and strategic design of new opportunities, key regulatory issues and innovation.
  • Serve as key member of SPO lead team who supports organizational health initiatives including employee training and development, and SPO-wide employee events.                              

Minimum Requirements

 

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering or Business Administration (or related degree field).

Graduate degree (MBA or Masters in Finance or Accounting) highly desirable. 

 

Minimum experience required of the position                                                                    

10+ years of energy industry experience, including proven knowledge of system operations, planning, settlements and an understanding of one or more Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as MISO or SPP.                                                                               

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Proven leadership capabilities with analytical, critical decision making, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and communicate well at all levels to successfully influence decisions and constructive outcomes.
  • Established track record of creating and sustaining a safe work environment by influencing behaviors that demonstrate genuine dedication and commitment to ensure safety is a top priority.
  • Capability to routinely drive change and improvement initiatives. Ability to proactively identify risk areas and concepts with the potential to impact the company’s business and operational model and subsequently formulate appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience in electric markets, specifically participation in Regional Transmission Organization (RTO’s) and related aspects.
  • Knowledge in regulated utility rates making, fuel recovery, rules and regulations at both federal and state jurisdictional levels.
  • Experience in regulatory proceedings, testifying and regulated utility rules and regulations.
  • FERC/NERC rules and regulations for electric providers
