Job Summary/Purpose
The Manager, Project Controls provides intrusive oversight of large, complex projects utilizing, establishing and leading project assurance, reporting, and training programs that drive predictability and efficiency in project delivery at Entergy. This position provides oversite and support for Entergy's Stage Gate Process (SGP) and project management standards - ensuring standardization and continuous improvement in project delivery across Entergy's Capital Projects New Generation business unit. Works directly with Project Managers and Construction Managers to ensure projects are delivered with cost and schedule certainty. Manages risks issues to ensure risks are identified and mitigated. Works directly with Project Teams to ensure alignment with Stage Gate Process and to ensure that proper project controls are being implemented. Works with Project Team to ensure costs are managed; change control is established and controlled; and that contingency is properly controlled. The Manager, Project Controls provides deep subject matter expertise (SME) to project teams, project controls team, aids in project business case development, and lessons learned to achieve the requirements of Entergy's Stage Gate Process (SGP) and project management and controls standards. This role will support Development of New Generation assets. Subject Mater Expertise in the project life cycle from Concept to Closeout, Cost Estimating, Cost Forecasting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Risk Determination, Contract Evaluation and Negotiation, Business Case Development, Assessment of Project Maturity, and Project Management Best Practices are key aspects of this role. This role will also require employee development and leadership of Direct Reports as well as Contracted Scope Providers and indirect development of team members outside of the candidates direct influence.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides deep subject matter expertise (SME) in the various disciplines of project management and control; maintains ownership for the development and continuous improvement of policies, standards, and guides that standardize and optimize project delivery across Entergy's Capital Projects New Generation business unit.
- Leads over site, assessments, and support for projects within Entergy's Capital Projects New Generation project portfolio to ensure compliance with Entergy's SGP and project management standards. Delivers projects with cost and schedule certainty; manages and controls costs; manages risk by identifying and mitigating risks.
- Leads and supports SGP Gate Reviews by performing rigorous evaluations of project development and control deliverables, including business cases presented by project teams.
- Leadership without authority, delegation and team management, development of team members, accountability for team member deliverables, coordination with peer and influencing up the organization, flexible approach to changing prioritization, knowledge of Entergy project execution methodology (PDS and Stage Gate) or similar processes from past experience.
- Utilizes project management and project controls expertise as well as business acumen and experience to provide SME-level project management, controls, and business case guidance to project team members in Entergy's Capital Projects New Generation business unit.
- Conducts training on the Entergy SGP, project management standards/implementation guides and in various project controls disciplines, such as Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA).
- Mentors other project controls managers, project controls specialists and cost analysts Capital Projects New Generation organization.
- Support Development of New Generation assets. Subject Mater Expertise in the project life cycle from Concept to Closeout, Cost Estimating, Cost Forecasting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Risk Determination, Contract Evaluation and Negotiation, Business Case Development, Assessment of Project Maturity, and Project Management Best Practices.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
- B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management or applicable course of study or related work experience.
- MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
- 10+ years plus capital project development and management experience. (Large, complex, utility capital project experience essential.
- 5+ Experience in the management and control of large, complex utility and/or Oil and Gas capital projects with an EPC or Engineering firm is desired.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
- Knowledge and experience in the management and control of large, complex capital projects.
