Job Summary/Purpose

As a member of the Fuel Supply Planning & Operations team, this role a key contributor in the development and implementation of long-term commercial strategies to secure reliable, future-ready fuel supply for Entergy’s generation fleet. The position plays a crucial role in advancing cost-effective outcomes for customers and advocating for the team’s strategies with internal and external stakeholders. The primary focus for the strategist role is the long-term--making sure the company is ready to connect fuel supply realities to the evolving needs of the regulated utility. Building and maintaining cross-functional relationships within the company is key. The role influences pivotal decisions for the company that, individually, can influence hundreds of millions of dollars over the lifespan of negotiated deals – these decisions are all the more pivotal as the volume of these high-impact decisions increases.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develops long term strategic fuel supply and transportation plans tailored to the needs of existing, developing, and proposed power plants and natural gas storage facilities 
  • Market Surveillance: Keeps up-to-date with commodity markets, assessing current fuel supply options relative to changes in gas/power market dynamics; identifies fuel deliverability or reliability risks, and proposes alternative strategies to mitigate such risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Works closely with internal teams and external counterparties to build and maintain relationships that support the team’s fuel supply objectives. Creates and presents regional fuel analysis to internal audiences, including interpreting data, identifying changes in short and long-term trends, conveying condensed market research, explaining regional fuel movements, etc.
  • Power Development Site Assessments: Develops and supports site assessment analyses for potential power generation, ensuring early identification and resolution of supply and transport capacity constraints.
  • Commercial Origination & Negotiation: Manages key negotiations and origination activities, ensuring commercial terms and agreements align with long-term strategies and add value to the fuel supply portfolio. Leads internal approval processes, including the development and presentation of documents, necessary to execute fuel strategies and support the external regulatory approval process (i.e. write testimony, respond to RFIs, and serve as company witness)
  • Legal Coordination: Works closely with legal counsel throughout the origination lifecycle, helping ensure all commercial terms negotiated are supportive of the team’s strategies; also helps develop points of view regarding best practices for supply and transportation agreements
  • Project Management: Project Manages fuel related initiatives, including oversight of any infrastructure build-out executed by counterparties to effectuate negotiated supply solutions. Coordinates timelines, discussions, and direction both internally (with Operating Companies, Capital Projects, Power Generation, Legal, Credit & Risk, Regulatory, etc.) and externally (with potential counterparties).
  • Tools & Data Integrity Management: Develops and leads the implementation of tools, datasets, and analytical capabilities essential for long-term planning, including but not limited to geospatial representations of assets and fuel supply positions. Leads efforts to ensure the integrity, accessibility, and usefulness of key document and data repositories, aligning with industry standards and best practices.
  • Operational Coordination & Alignment: Engages with procurement and scheduling teams to ensure that long-term strategic initiatives positively impact daily operations and that sufficient understanding of operational procurement is maintained for potential backup support.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in a field of study with relevance for work in the energy industry, operations or commercial transactions. MBA or other relevant graduate degree is preferred.

Minimum experience required of the position

Strategist:

  • 3-4 years of experience in relevant field (Natural Gas, related project, related utility experience)

Strategist, Sr:

  • 5-6 years of experience in relevant field (Natural Gas, related project, related utility experience)

Strategist, Sr Staff:

  • 7+ years of experience in relevant field (Natural Gas, related project, related utility experience)
