Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities

 

Job Summary

Role is responsible to act as the lead for coordinating Power Generation’s (PGen) fleet outage plans and changes to the those plans for other Business Unit (BU) changes, Maintenance  and Test outages. This includes overseeing and coordinating all the information necessary for semi-annual AREAS planning meetings, providing inputs for and resolving potential issues raised by the annual PRA auction, and acting as the point of contact (POC) for the outage portfolio. POC duties include liaising with the jurisdictional resource planning organizations, grid operations, market operations (EMO), System planning and operations (SPO), Nuclear, Transmission Operations and Planning (TOP), MISO and the ROCC/PMAC on emergent issues.

 

Role would provide analytics related to long term outage planning including PRA auction strategies and results. Support of analysis and studies for life extensions and acquisitions is expected.

 

Role would support the Outage Planning Process. This includes maintenance of user and outage databases in the Outage Portal, pre and post outage data requests for unit outages and analysis related to outage performance.

 

 

Experience: 

Candidate needs to have at least 10+ years of operations experience in various types of power generation (e.g., drum type, supercritical, CCGT etc.) and knowledgeable in operating generation assets in a competitive market such as MISO or SPP. 

Preferred: Candidate should have deep knowledge of all fuel types and the overall fleet outage strategy. Deep functional knowledge of plant and market operations is also desired.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

Education for the position: High School graduate with demonstrated experience in power plant operations, power plant systems, power generation policies and market operations. 

Preferred: Advanced technical certification or bachelor’s technical/engineering degree or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 10+ years of experience in utility operations
  • Desired:
    • demonstrated leadership over reports and/or individuals
    • Relevant experience including coordination of outages and

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to manage and develop fleet summaries of the PGen outage portfolio through PCI, Power BI Reports, and excellent cross-functional review facilitation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop relationships with the market, OpCo, grid operations, and PGen personnel that promote an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.
  • Proficient analytical skills that provide decision making support to outage portfolio development at the unit, regional, and fleet level.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing and dynamic work environment.

 

Job Duties

  • BU Lead for outage planning for Power Generation, coordinating all planning processes (within BU and across BU’s) with inputs from sites and service organizations
  • Mentor/develop PGen team members on SAC impacts, Outage Planning Process, and optimization of overlapping outages.
  • Advise and brief Power Generation leadership and plant personnel on outage performance through regular updates both formally and informally.
  • Utilize experience and knowledge to mentor others on the functions of Entergy's resource operations within a competitive market (MISO).
  • Lead the Post-Outage Critique program to track problems and issues to resolution, including supporting/leading fleet level root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Work with fleet and SMART Operations personnel to develop medium and long-term strategies for outages to support the OpCos overall service portfolio.

  • POC for resolving & optimizing post-outage startup plans
