Job Summary/Purpose:

Entergy Solar Power Generation is seeking a skilled and motivated Solar Electrical Engineer/ Tech Support Specialist to join our engineering & technical support (ETS) team to lead and provide   engineering services and expert technical oversight for utility sized solar plants.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical design, analysis, and implementation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across the utility-scale solar plants. In addition, provide support to maintenance and operations across a fleet of solar sites to insure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.  Develops and implements programs, standards, procedures, and processes to establish and maintain a comprehensive maintenance program.  This is a key role in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance of our solar installations.

 

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Design and review electrical systems for utility-scale solar photovoltaic PV projects (DC and AV power systems)
  • Develop single-line diagrams, wiring layouts, and equipment specifications.
  • Develop and implements preventive maintenance (PM) program to ensure all power distribution systems receive proper maintenance at set intervals.
  • Perform load flow, short circuit, grounding, arc flash and protection coordination studies via ETAP program.
  • Select and size electrical and controls components such as solar combiners, inverters, transformers, switchgear, conductors and protective devices.
  • Coordinate and support interconnections with grid in load dispatch and compliance coordination processes.
  • Collaborate with civil and mechanical engineers, project managers, and contractors.
  • Conduct site assessments and provide technical support during construction, commissioning and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, SERC, IEEE, NFPA, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Review and approves plant modifications (PMOD) to correct equipment deficiencies and perform upgrades to improve safety and reliability of solar systems
  • Maintain configuration control documentation to reflect field as builds and prepare technical reports for stakeholders.

 

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a professional and experienced team that provides technical support to Entergy’s solar power generation fleet
  • Make decisions that have significant day-to-day impact to technical aspects of AC, DC systems that includes solar combiners, inverters, transformers, switchgear, conductors and protective devices.
  • Subject Matter Expert in power plant electrical systems and equipment
  • Mentor plant staff in electrical and other technical areas   
  • Provide assistance to plant sites with technical issues related to electrical equipment
  • Provide onsite and remote support for equipment planned maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Evaluate/qualify electrical equipment suppliers from a technical standpoint
  • Develop and make recommendations to maximize reliability of solar generation fleet
  • Perform detailed equipment failure root cause analyses, troubleshooting, and quality control
  • Perform review of trip coordination of solar plant equipment and provide recommendations

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering from an institution with a certified Engineering curriculum (Other disciplines considered depending on experience of individual)
  • Or Solar equipment minimum 6 years applicable exp.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Sr Engineer: at least 6 - 8 years of applicable and progressive experience
  • Sr. Lead Engineer: at least 8 - 10 years of applicable and progressive experience
  • Sr Technical Support Specialist  6 - 8 years of applicable and progressive experience
  • Sr. Lead Technical Support Specialist Sr.: at least 8 - 10 years of applicable and progressive experience 
    • Desired: Power Generation experience preferred or other industrial experience with boiler and turbine operation

Desired experiences considered applicable:

  • Field service engineering experience with OEM’s
  • Military experience such as Navy training
  • Operations and maintenance experience with an electric utility company
  • Design experience with an OEM
  • Operations and maintenance experience with another heavy industry where similar equipment to utility equipment is used

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Needs to have a solid working knowledge of LV and MV AC, DC power distribution systems and switchyard electrical, instrumentation, and controls
  • Needs to have thorough knowledge and understanding with solar PV equipment including solar combiners, inverters, transformers, switchgear, conductors and protective devices engineering and design as well as the maintenance of the  solar equipment
  • Needs to have knowledge and understanding of the code requirements regarding design and repair of electrical equipment Must have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop relationships with the customer, other technical personnel, and Plant Operations senior management and promote an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect
  • Must have the necessary business and economic skills to provide decision making support to the plants and senior management of Plant Operations
  • Must have the necessary computer skills to effectively use the corporate computer tools provided as our standard tool set and standard computer software for complex analysis and problems solving
