Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of 28 active natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric and solar facilities, with the capacity to generate more than 17,000 megawatts. In addition, Power Generation is building and acquiring new natural gas and solar generating facilities to join with the company’s nuclear group in owning and operating approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity.



Under directive supervision, with some latitude for planning chemical test and analysis, must be able to perform laboratory and field test and make inspections related to power plant operation and must be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

  • Perform laboratory tests of water from various points of power station water cycles
  • Perform special tests on boiler deposits and scales
  • Perform lubricating oil tests such as moisture and particle count
  • Test materials used in water treatment
  • Run capacity checks on anion and cation resins
  • Perform routine field and laboratory instrument calibrations and minor maintenance
  • Prepare routine chemical reagents and standards
  • Collect environmental samples and measurements
  • Perform routine inspections of continuous monitoring equipment
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations as needed to calculate results of analysis, determine flow rates, etc.
  • Operate specialized instruments and perform tests to determine fuel quality
  • Direct work of assistants and assist other technicians
  • Assist in general operation and maintenance during unusual or emergency periods
  • Prepare records and reports
  • Perform necessary housekeeping



  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in power plant chemistry, water purification, or related work or education
  • Have a thorough knowledge of laboratory test equipment and instruments
  • Have a knowledge of fundamental chemistry and chemical analysis
  • Be proficient in the use of and nomenclature of equipment ordinarily used
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the chemistry involved in power station water treatment
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the complete feed water, steam flow cycle, cooling water cycle and related equipment
  • Have ability to understand and perform semi-routine operation of considerable complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available
  • Know the Company's safety rules, and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid
  • Know the location of, and be able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment
  • Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires
  • Know the location of and proper use of all personal protective equipment required to safely perform the duties of this position
  • Preferred:
    • At least AS/BS degree in Chemistry or Environmental

    • At least 2 years of environmental or water plant experience



  • Age - 21 minimum
  • Must have full use of mental and physical faculties
  • Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require



  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents
  • Be willing to attend and take part in safety meetings
  • Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job
  • Be willing to work irregular or extra hours as required
  • Receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates
  • Be especially neat, clean and orderly in work and person
  • Understand importance of always rendering and maintaining first class, courteous service to all customers



  • Successful completion of the EEI TECH test

One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing.
