Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities. 

 

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

The Team Leader reports directly to the Plant Manager and directs, leads, and supervises a team of operations personnel in a cross-functional multi-craft, multi-skilled plant environment at a Natural Gas fired power plant who share responsibility for its safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This position champions employee and contractor safety programs, drives continuous improvement in plant operations and maintenance and actively participates in budget development and the effective management of allocated financial resources. This position effectively manages operational and maintenance issues to support system needs, evaluates performance of and develops direct reports, maintains high standards of diversity and inclusion, ethics and integrity, and drives continuous improvement by serving as a champion of change. Tis Team Leader will also preform project development and management duties over steam driven turbine generators, boiler feed pump turbines, boiler feed pumps, and supporting systems as assigned.

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for safety, compliance, budgeting, reliability, and all other aspects of plant operations.  Provides direction to operational/maintenance personnel, schedules shift resources, and manages staffing issues. Provides leadership for and the development of direct reports to embrace a culture of strong fundamentals of operation and maintenance. Embraces human performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assures that plant operations/maintenance personnel comply with safe work practices and processes, comply with plant procedures, and efficiently and effectively operate and maintain the plant equipment.
  • Develops procedures, checklists, and performance measures to monitor process controls to ensure that all operations, maintenance, and regulatory requirements are fulfilled within staff.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a high standard of performance using operational procedures, operations rounds/trending, shift turnover, protection system functionality, water chemistry, system descriptions, maintenance procedures, etc.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external interfaces and key strategic alliance partners.  Maintains an awareness of the latest industry research and practical application to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides cost control plans for short range work plans and long-range strategic planning.  Prepares and manages budget in assigned areas to leverage our financial process to manage deviations from the approved annual budget.
  • Initiates and provides leadership in respect to contract management/contractor oversight for routine and outage work.
  • Evaluates and champions gap closure actions that are consistent with the company's overall business strategy.
  • Serve as the plant’s subject matter expert over turbine generators and associated equipment as assigned. This includes performance evaluations, continuous improvement initiatives, project management focused on equipment health and reliability.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Desired:
    • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field such as Engineering or equivalent work experience (e.g. at least 10 years of power plant experience working on major rotating equipment)

 

Minimum experience required of the position:

  • With technical degree: at least 5 years of Power Plant Operations/Maintenance or Engineering experience
  • Without degree: at least 10 years of power plant experience working on major rotating equipment.
  • Desired:
    • Experience and practical working knowledge of turbine generators, hydraulic control systems,
    • Experience in contract management

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Extensive knowledge of Power Plant operating and maintenance practices, equipment maintenance strategies, High Energy Controls Process, and other safety procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with contractors and outside agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to actively engage subordinates and other plant personnel to strive for operational excellence
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to address complex problems using creative solutions both quickly and accurately
  • Has a history of strong accountability in self and others
  • Knowledge of steam driven turbine generators and associated equipment

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred but not required
